“The ancients called it ‘food for the gods’“
The Popol Vuh, the sacred book of the Maya, unfolds a complex web of mystery around a beverage known as xocoatl (ch-co-atle). At Southern Tier, we’re not surprised that hieroglyphs of the ancient Maya depict chocolate being poured for rulers and gods. Even through the many voyages of Columbus, the mystical bean remained nothing more than a strange currency of the native peoples. Moving through centuries, the circular journey of cacao has been realized in our brewing house, encompassing the complexity of the darkest, bitter-sweet candy together with the original frothy cold beverage of the ancient Maya to bring to you our Blackwater Series Choklat Stout. We have combined the finest ingredients to tempt your senses & renew the power & interrelation of history in every bottle.

Bottle shared by bconley @ otakudens Vero Beach Throwdown. Pours extremely dark brown with light brown head. Very strong milk chocolate aroma. It tastes like a liquid Hershey bar with some espresso. Alcohol flavor is pretty strong.Full body with average carbonation. Very enjoyable.

Bottle. Poured black with a brown head. The aroma was full of chocolate and coffee, reminded me of a mocha. Flavor starts a sweet chocolate but builds darker in to a coffee flavor, but also a strong alcohol presence.

22 oz bomber generously given as a bonus by Sparky27. Pour is mostly black with slight ruby highlights, settling builds up a 1 inch tan head. Head is quite lasting. Aroma of sweet chocolate, almost like cocoa fudge. The chocolate is very pronounced, and quite "fresh baked" smelling. Roasted espresso is behind that. Some bright pine hops. This is about the cocoa, primarily, with coffee in the back seat behind it. Taste is bitter espresso initially, some pine character, then to the cocoa and a slight herbal mintiness. Interesting how the taste is the reverse order of the nose. Also evident is ever so slight cherry fruit. They really throw a lot of flavors at you with this one. Its not terribly well integrated, though i really can’t imagine it would be. Palate is heavy to medium, fully coats the mouth and is a bit oily in the long finish. Carbonation is minimal. Alcohol is well hidden under the giant pile of flavors - you really only notice it in the warming finish. As this warms, it really becomes bitter cocoa chocolate, with the sweetness bordering on syrupy sugar. I don’t have the sweet tooth to really get into this one. This was an interesting one, thanks Eric.

22 ounce bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville, VA. Pours pitch black. Medium head with fair head retention and lacing. Aroma is very nice... a congruence of all things chocolate and delectable with just a hint of coffee thrown in. Taste is dark chocolate with roasted malts and a bitter espresso finish and faint vanilla notes.. Full bodied. Damn good beer,

22oz bottle. Opaque brown-black with an unstoppable, ever-present cottony foam head. Rich chocolate coffee aroma. Full bodied, with some alcoholic cocoa notes. Bad-ass flavor/mouthfeel , in your face quality desert beer. Medium to low carbonation helps keep it extra smooth and drinkable. Top notch.

Bottle thanks to sloth. I love ST stouts (and lots of their other beers). Pours with a brown, mocha head, over a very deep coca cola body. Aroma has tons of bitter baking chocolate, a few roasty coffee beans and a lot more bitter chocolate for good measure. Taste is chocolate powder with bitter coffee grounds and a bit of nuttiness. Lots of cocoa, but not as decadent as Choklat (I need more...that beer is like crack...addictive). Creamy mouthfeel and light bubbles.

Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark black color with a huge creamy dark tan head. The aroma was fabulous mix of strong sweet chocolate syrup, vanilla and sweet coffee. The flavor was strong with malted milk, sweet chocolate, vanilla and a hint of coffee with moderate floral hops and light fruity hops underneath. The finish was long and turned bitter with a more pronounced hoppiness dominating the chocolate and vanilla. Wonderful.
