Bottle at home. 16th June 2012. Pours a bark ruby red. Aroma is bready, boozy and some bitterness. Flavour is initially sweet on the tongue, burnt caramel and then some rye and hop bitterness, quite distinctive phases of the complex beer. Good and interesting, although not something I would stock up on.

From a 355ml bottle on 21/5/2012. ABV listed at 8%. Pours a cloudy dark amber with a smallish head. Has a lovely, strong piney, resiny hop aroma and a sweet fruit and malt background. Has lots of sweet caramel, biscuit and citrus fruit up front, which is perfectly balanced against the rye, and a powerful, long resiny hop bitterness. Has a touch of pepper and grapefruit at the end. Fantastic beer.

22 oz. bottle. Pours dark orange, with a reddish hue. The aroma is hay, rye, earthy hops, and pine tar. The flavor is very bitter. The palate is medium, sticky, and astringent. Overall, this is a very forward IPA, but not balanced or complex.

Bottle. Reddish brown beer with a strong whispy off white head. The aroma is mildly roasted, and the flavour is strongly hopped with a long, long roasted, malty and bitter finish. Overall a very nice strongly flavoured hopped, malty and roasted beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Clear red brown beer, nice creamy light beige head, unstable, pretty adhesive. Aroma: sweet, fruity, flowery, honey, sugar, little dusty (the rye?), grains. MF: soft carbon, medium body, fruity start, wine gums sweet, honey, flowery, some lemon drops. Aftertaste: bit sweet, honey, gentle bitterness, very flowery, amazingly balanced, still pretty bitter dry ending, little medicinal touch.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Reddish-brown pour with an off-white head. Citrus, toffee apple and fudge nose. Highland toffee, malt and caramel flavour. Dry malty finish.

Stale hop aroma, black pepper, tea, honey, stale but not vegetal. Cloudy ochre, abundant floaties, thick yellow head, some lacing. Tangy and quite sweet. Kibble and tea notes. Piney finish, but still cloying sweetness. Drinks like a hoppy doppelbock. Medium body. There is a lot trying to happen in this beer and the sugary sweetness is winning out. Dial down the sweetness and this could be a very nice DIPA.

Bottle at the Evening Star, Brighton. It pours deep red, with a big off-white head. The nose is BBQ sauce, boozy Christmas pudding and resin. The taste is rye bread, caramel, toffee, resin, varnish, bitter-sweetness, earth, citrus, spice and alcohol warmth, with a solid bitter finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Decent, but nothing special.

Bottle @ home. Clear, caramel brown appearance with a fairly sizable tan head. Piney, organic hoppy, bready, mild rye malty aroma. Pretty well bodied, rye, slightly toasty, bready malty, mild citrusy, piney, mild resiny hoppy flavor. Slightly bitter, piney finish. Maybe the rye ipa I’ve ever had.
