Clear, bright, dark brown color with a medium tall beige head; aroma of orange marmalade, balanced flavor with a long, light bitter finish

Dark brown with a thin head. Chocolate and mint, grapefruit. It’s got a good hop bitterness hit also this candied orange sweetness that brings this across the palate well.

On tap at Loyal Legion - PDX, pours a deep dark brown / near-black with a small tan head. Aroma has a nice balance between roasted malt and gentle earthy, piney hops. Flavour is well-balanced, with deep roasted malt, earthiness, and a little pine. Real good balance, with plenty of roast and hops to boot. Excellent.

Tap at Watering Hole. Aroma is resin hops, quite full on harshness, maybe touch of caramel. Taste has the caramel again, little spice, light bitterness. Bit boring for me, but alright.

Tap at Watering Hole. Lightly roasted malty nose, with lots of chocolate and some light apricot. Well-balanced on the palate, with more of that apricot and chocolate coming out. Bitter finish with some light roastiness, but feels more fruity than roasty. Pretty nice take, a fruity and juicy black IPA. --- Beer merged from original tick of Dark Thoughts on 16 Jun 2016 at 21:18 - Score: 7. Original review text: Very nice black IPA. Hoppy but with good malt character. Apricot and chocolate. Solid.

Draught @ Baerlic, Portland OR. Pours dark brown with a smooth head. Aroma of roasty malts, hints of herbal hops, coffee, chocolate and cocoa. Taste is smooth, slightly roasty and hoppy with some grass, pine and resin. Finish is smooth, slightly hoppy and roasty with some coffee and herbal notes. Slightly unbalanced, but quite bitter black IPA.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a dark brown color with a small white head. A light fruity pine nose. The flavor is big pine, chocolate, ash, citrus. Nice.
