Tap at Watering Hole (their 4th Anniversary). Poured dark brown, some haze flying around - but what do you expect from a beer that has been in a keg more than two years. Actually this has aged quite nicely. Dark malt caramel and dried dark fruits blend nicely in the nose and also the sam in the taste. Some toasted toffee and molasses in the aftertaste. Like it!

Tap at Watering Hole for Annivesary (2 years aged it seems). Molasses and brown sugar dominate the nose with some light nuttiness. Some light nutmeg seems to come out as it warms. Sweet on the palate with booze. Not bad, but strong ales aren’t really my favorite style. Happy to try this one though. --- Beer merged from original tick of Coedo / Coronado Coedonado on 26 Jun 2016 at 22:13 - Score: 7

Tap at Devil’s Craft, Tokyo. Dark brown color, small off-white head. Aroma has rye, coffee, caramel and alcohol. Medium-bodied to full-bodied. Ryeish malty flavor with resiny bitterness. Imperial black ipa. Nice although a bit sweet for my liking.

light brown color. Very malty pepper nose mildly sweet and boozy with some dried fruits. Full bodied. Marketed better after six month dark chocolate, toffee, peat malty, easy drinking. Good stuff. 3.7

9.5% part of the tasting set at Bankan, 800 yen for 3 small glasses. A clear dark ruby brown with a filmy beige head. Malty toffee with a hoppy touch in the aroma. The taste is silky smooth, woodsy, toffee, vanilla, with piney/citrus west coast hops. Some warming when it hits your belly but that’s a good thing in winter. Tasty stuff!

Draft - Roasted malts and raisin. Jet black with a thin beige head. Lots of anise, which really dominates to the point of distraction. There is also some very strong palate notes that may be alcohol but is something else odd. This may need some time to mellow or may just be bad.

Tap at Bankan. Coffee gorund nose, burnt rice candy, strawberry. Weird. No coffee in this, which surprised me. Cloudy brown-orange color. Sweet, spicy, fruity flavor, well roasted, with a bitter finish. Nice crisp body. Ok, but this is a strange one that doesn’t exactly work. Sweet, then harsh.
