A Unique Dry-Hopped Sweet Tart Sour Mash Ale. We soured the wort on the Hot Side with Lactobacillus for a few days and then brewed up this smooth and hoppy sour. It tastes like a big bowl of fruity candy or some chewable flavored vitamins, but what's the difference? It's sweet, tart, and sassy, just like the tasty cherry pie that your favorite aunt makes. For all the Aunt Sally's out there, You know who you are...

Bottle. Clear gold with an airy. Hoppy citrus nose, very grassy and fresh, lemony, with a touch of lactic acid. Quite tart lemon flavor, with a medium sweetness kicking in as well and a touch of yogurt. Very juicy. Crisp, lite, refreshing. Simple but enjoyable.

Like the many other sours I’ve tried this season, this beer has a tart smell under the cap, something like a strawberry-rhubarb pie. In the glass, the smell focuses more on the hops that were added after fermentation, with some earthiness and bittering that may include a citrus or pine note, but much of that component comes from the sour malt. The beer is slightly darker than the familiar gold of a light lager, with a fizzy head. The taste has alighter tart than any sourness, a bit less sour than the Two Brothers A Bretter Day. I have had a few local dry-hopped sour beers already, which demonstrates that this is a thing, but those still needed more work on their recipes. This one shows that work and time. The hops are a better balance to the more fruity tartness that marks this to a wild yeast ferment over acidulation.

Bottle from Tanakaya. Pours a clear orange gold with a finger of foam that dissipates fairly quickly. Classic Lagunitas IPA hoppy nose with citrus and light dank notes. Tart on the palate with a young, wild strawberry kind of flavor. Very thin body without much of a finish. Decent. --- Beer merged from original tick of Lagunitas Aunt Sally on 20 Aug 2016 at 19:12 - Score: 6. Original review text: Nice dry-hopped nose. Thin bodied and overly tart. Meh.
