"Clean this mess up or else we'll all end up in jail...those test tubes and the scale...just get 'em all outta here..." He was referring to the complex super-critical-CO2 hop extraction equipment set up on the table in the lab across from the brewhouse. Hop extracts are for the BIG brewers, he thought - suitable only for crummy sub-standard and barely-passable industrial lagers, not the subtle and elegant craft beer made here. But wrong he was. The New Brewer does not eschew any possible inputs. In this case the mountain of extracts will replace the mountain of hop vegetative material in the kettle thus creating cleaner hop flavors and preventing the otherwise spinach-like mess of a kettle full of super-hopped wort from clogging up a pump or worse. The sensuous honey-like amber ooze was administered intravenously to the wort kettle and the sacrament was complete. Another kettle of Hop Stoopid is once again raised up and fermented on high

On tap at Southern New Hampshire Brewers Fest. Enjoyed in a 2 ounce glass. Clear gold appearance. nice clarity. Smells like a big pine tree very bitter, floral and meaty malt backbone. cloves and peppers. intense bitterness. No balance at all. Heavy body.

Väldigt trevlig. Lite marmeladig och syltig i doften. Smak av humle, grape. Oljig i konsistensen, jämn och fin och en svag beska.

Hazy gold beer, little white head. Light soft palate but with a minerally crispy edge. Light hoppy nose. Sweetish fresh hop. Piney grapefruit, not bitter. Well integrated orange, peach and mango. Finishes soft. A lovely IPA, fresh, flavoursome and soft. Lagunitas rock!

22 ounce bottle. Bright yellow gold color. Small white head. Sweetish grapefruit pine hop aroma. Tasty refreshing pine hop flavor. Hints of vanilla, honey, pink grapefruit and toasted pinenuts come to mind. Very intense hop finish.

Deep golden amber color. Cherries, caramel, pine nut and a touch of floral in the nose. Mouth is thick, rounded, excellent balance. The malt really shines, but hops are there just as much. Not an over the top IPA, but simply lovely balance with moderate bitter finish. Although I generally prefer hoppier ipas, this is perfect.

650 ml bottle bought @ Kihoskh. Pours tiny hazy deep reddish golden with a frothy white head that slowly dissipates while leaving some lacing on the glass. Smell is sweet and malty with caramel, oily pine, freshly cut grass, overripe mango, overripe pineapple, wet leaves, lemon zest, biscuits, resinous wood and alcohol. Taste is sweet, bitter and malty with sweet dark bread, orange peal, oily pine, lemon balm, resinous wood, burnt caramel, brown sugar, lemon peal and hints of dill and sheet metal. Mouthfeel is round, sticky sweet, oily bitter and medium to full bodied. Finish is sweet and bitter with pine, caramel, orange peal, grass and hits of sheet metal.

One-third pint from the draught menu of guest beers at BrewDog Glasgow. Near clear, apricot coloured body, firm white head leaving spotty lacework behind. Fresh fruity hops to the nose. Rich hoppy flavour with grapefruits and dried fruits followed by a long mid-dry, bitter tail. Pleasant, 10.04.2012.

Pour from 22 oz bomber. Thick, fine head that fades to persistent, heavy lacing. Taste hangs on the palate from first sip through a long aftertaste. Fizziness inhibits the hops and malt characteristics. Great value!

This is a good double, much better in my opinion than the basic Lagunitas IPA. I personally don’t detect strong grapefruit notes in either aroma or taste; I am hit by a piney, grassy hop flavor that is strong enough to push the malt tones well into the background. Dry finish without a lot of aftertaste makes this a highly drinkable beer, but nothing extraordinary.

June 2010: Large brown bottle obtained from a Lee’s Discount place in Las Vegas and taken to Utah for this tasting. The beer was poured into two large goblets in the lounge of our B&B just outside Zion National Park after a day of hiking. The beer had a clear body of dark gold, peaked by a white head which left some good lacing on the goblets. The name kind of gives the game away when it comes to the aroma and taste. This is another of those over hopped US beers that are all the rage for some reason. However this beer wasn’t as bitter or dry as some I tried during my trip, it had a mellow sort of feel. A malt content seemed to be attempting to calm down the hops and I found it easy to drink. It wasn’t the most refreshing beer I could have choosen to drink after walking, but I enjoyed it.
