"Clean this mess up or else we'll all end up in jail...those test tubes and the scale...just get 'em all outta here..." He was referring to the complex super-critical-CO2 hop extraction equipment set up on the table in the lab across from the brewhouse. Hop extracts are for the BIG brewers, he thought - suitable only for crummy sub-standard and barely-passable industrial lagers, not the subtle and elegant craft beer made here. But wrong he was. The New Brewer does not eschew any possible inputs. In this case the mountain of extracts will replace the mountain of hop vegetative material in the kettle thus creating cleaner hop flavors and preventing the otherwise spinach-like mess of a kettle full of super-hopped wort from clogging up a pump or worse. The sensuous honey-like amber ooze was administered intravenously to the wort kettle and the sacrament was complete. Another kettle of Hop Stoopid is once again raised up and fermented on high

(bottle, 66cl, courtesy of jfb – thanks!) Slightly hazy, golden to light-amber colour with a medium-sized off-white foamy head. Malty aroma with notes of caramel and a present hops character, including herbal, almost a bit ethereally notes and a citrus-fruity touch. Bitter-sweet flavour, medium to full bodied with a mild carbonation. Slightly bready malt-accented taste with notes of caramel, cookies and a whiff of cough syrup, accompanied by spicy herbal, slightly minty touch, also a rather restrained fruity touch; moderately dry bitter-sweet and quite rounded finish. 27.VIII.14

First impression….well you open the bottle and put your nose in it (as far as it get). My goodness what a lovely fruity aroma. Mostly mandarin coming up. Then what. Ahh pour it into the glass. Still a lovely fruity aroma. Lots of hoppy touch as well. Unusual clear golden pour with a fine white head that to soon ends up in a white layer. Powerful body with a decent sweetness. I would have preferred a bit less sweetness to be honest. Nice bitterness and good carbonation. Very rich tropical fruity and maybe to hoppy if that is possible. Powerful double IPA, but a little bit to dominant overripe fruity for me. Made it a bit unbalanced. Otherwise not much to complain about. Unusual clear body. And loses it head to fast.

Draft pour at special brews lagunitas night. Pours copper with a lasting head. Probably the piniest aroma of any beer I’ve tried. A lot of citrus flavor going on here. Super hoppy as expected. Semi sweet finish. Doesn’t stand out as a top IPA for me necessarily, but solid overall. Good stuff.

Bottle. Orange, grapefruit peel, and toffee malt aroma. Golden yellow with nice head. Funky orange malt and moderately bitter cat pee/pine flavor. Nicely blended. Funky.

Bottle from BarleyWine, Copenhagen - fuzzy golden coloured pour with nice white head and lacing. Punchy hoppy fruity and sweet malty aroma and taste, caramel, light toffee, great juicy citrus flavours with lemon and mandarin peel, great bitter finish. Lovely stuff.

Bottle from QClub at home. Very deep amber clear pour. Thin foamy head. Very unusual aroma - very sharp hoppy fruity aroma with a peppery spiciness. Taste is huge resinous hops, a bit sour fruit in its hoppiness too. Malty and rich enough to stand up to it. A bit thick/syrupy. Ends with booze and bitterness. Very big, heavy, extremely hoppy. Too extreme to buy frequently.

Reviewed from notes. I’m not sure why its called \"Sonoma Farmhouse\" on ratebeer, but it doesn’t say that anywhere on any bottle I’ve ever had. Anyways, here goes:
The appearance was a golden orange slightly transparent body with a one finger white foamy head. Carbonation is seen rising.
The smell had some sweet and spicy through citrus, hops, and malts.
The taste was mainly sweet, slight bittering flavors come through citrus, slight pine/resinous thing goin’ on.
On the palate, it sat about a medium, smooth, fairly sessionable, bittersweet aftertaste and finish.
Overall, this is a good one for the style, glad I tried it, and almost always come back to whenever I can.
