Bottle. Rich golden to amber color--lovely. Nicely hoppy aroma: a bit of citrus on clean, rich, malt. Great aroma hops in the flavor, with citrus fruitiness on top of light yet rich malt, and a good bitter finish. Excellent flavor and balance, with great hops for the style without being over the top on anything. One of the best bottled lagers I’ve tasted, well deserving of its praise.

Tap. Poured a dark golden with not much of a head. Flavor was underwhelming, malts and a touch of hops. Flavor has a bit of sweetness of the caramel variety to complement the hops and malts. Very good for style, but not my favorite style.

Bottle from Archer Liquors. Light copper color with a transient, temporarily impressive off-white head. Aromas of pale malt and saaz? hop. Near medium body with fizzy/frothy carbonation. Flavor is amazingly bitter, almost overpowering the light malt. Comes a bit bready, but finishes nicely bitter and fairly dry. 30 IBU seems a good number.

Bottle thanks to ilovedarkbeer. Pours with a foamy, off-white head and a clear copper body. Aroma of honey, caramel and a bit of cardboard. Overall pretty sweet and bready. Taste is cereal, biscuit and light hops. Fizzy and dry mouthfeel.

12 oz bottle, best by date 08/06/08. Pours golden amber with a small white head. Aroma is mainly malts with just a touch of grassy hops. Flavor is a pleasant balance of pale malts and light bitter hops. Not much to describe, but this is a very nice, drinkable beer.

Copper pour with a finger deep, off-white head. Fruity, malts, biscuit, and light herbal tones in the aroma. Medium, crisp body. The biscuit malts back a nice fresh fruit and crisp hops flavor. Been a fan of this beer for quite some time.

I’ve held off a long time from rating this beer, simply because I wanted to try it on tap (I think a beer like this isn’t the same in the bottle) - so I got it on tap at the Winking Lizard in Cleveland (and again at the airport while waiting for my plane), and I’m really glad I did - this strikes a perfect match between assertive european hops and buttery, bready, almost nutty flavors - some mild spiciness and bright fruity character - very clean, but full enough to keep it from being thin - I would drink this all day long.

12 oz. bottle from Secret Santa (Winter 07). Pour is a clear golden with some orangish under tones. Nice two inch white head. Aroma of sweet malt and some bitterness. Taste is the nice mellow caramel sweet maltiness, with some almost roasted almond nuttiness and bitterness towards the end. Nice crisp finish, drinkable beer. Thanks Santa!
