Creamy butterscotch notes flood the taste buds, laced with subtle complex fruit...and a subtle suggestion of vintage port. Elegant and seamless, this beer was a waltz on the palate.

In ’The Trumpet Major’ Hardy wrote of Dorchester strong beer "It was of the most beautiful colour that the eye of an artist in beer could desire; full in body, yet brisk as a volcano; piquant, yet without a twang; luminous as an autumn sunset;..."

1995 bottle, many thanks Bryan! Hazy brown color with white head. Aroma is oxidized cellar mop, soy sauce. Taste is moppy, wet cellar, very oxidized, resinous. Oily mouthfeel with low carbonation. Alright, but past its prime.

1979 Vintage. Muddy brown, no head. Smells like a dark fruit soaked in alcohol. Really strong dark ale aroma - some dark fruit, strong characterful alcohol and spice, and even some bitterness. No obvious signs of oxidation. Really good.

1997 version, 6th DRG. Malt, butterscotch and a touch of dust in the aroma. Thick, malty, somewhat alcoholic. Old calvados?? Warming alcohol. Loaded with quality. Has a lot of life left.

180ml bottle. 1985 vintage. Sweet and a bit stingy with some oxidized port notes, plums, caramel, toffee, malts and earthiness. Feels a bit off.
