This is our Ol’ Faithful. No, it’s not a geothermal phenomenon. It’s the beer everybody, including professional beer judges, just seems to dig. Maybe they like how it’s smooth, medium-bodied, and semi-sweet, while not too heavy or bitter. Maybe it’s the amber color, or the blend of four imported malts balanced by two Germanic hops, or the fact that it takes five weeks to get right. Or maybe it’s all the above.

Malts: Vienna, Pilsner, Dark Munich, CaraAmber
Hops: Northern Brewer, Saaz

12 ounce bottle into lager glass, bottled on 4/3/2018. Pours crystal clear deep orange/amber/light copper color with a 1 finger dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big cracker, brown sugar, brown bread crust, and toasted biscuit; with lighter notes of nuttiness, caramel, pepper, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great complexity bready malts and light earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big cracker, brown sugar, brown bread crust, and toasted biscuit; with lighter notes of nuttiness, caramel, pepper, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Light herbal, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of cracker, brown sugar, brown bread crust, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness/pepper, and herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity and robustness of bready malts and light earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and no astringent flavors after the finish. Fairly crisp/clean finishing. Perfectly clean on lager flavors, with no fruity/yeasty notes present. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, bready/grainy, and lightly creamy/sticky mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.2%. Overall this is an excellent Vienna lager. All around great complexity and robustness of bready malts and light earthy hop flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and pretty refreshing to drink with the mellowly bitter/drying finish. This is kind of leaning on the Dunkel side of things, but not overly sweet. Very clean and rich Vienna/Munich malt flavors, with nice earthy noble hop balance. A very enjoyable offering, and well made style example.

Draft at Big Stick. Dark, clear Amber, small cap of creamy head. Aroma is pure caramel malts. Taste is also caramel, straight forward, nothing else. For what it is, no frills, decent. Nice feel

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured an orange-caramel color with a large fluffy orange-tan head that lingered and left minimal lacing. The aroma was sweet and tart with Pez and perfumey hops. The flavor was tangy, a bit perfumey and had light notes of yeast and caramel. Medium length finish. Medium body.

Draft. Clear amber body with a frothy white head, diminishing. Aroma of caramel, toasted grain, light bread, grass. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. A bit sweet, but OK balance overall.

A reddish copper Vienna with a thin off white head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with light grassy German hops, light mineral notes, treacle, pleasant. In mouth, a nice sweet caramel malt with light grassy German hops, light mineral notes, light treacle, very nice. Bottle at Lufthansa lounge, IAD terminal B. 7-3-8-3-14
