Bottle at home (from the Struise shop in Brugge) 3/12/12. Opaque, murky mid amber with a thin off white head that soon clears to the edge of the glass and forms a film in the centre. Nose is caramel malts, hops, a little pine, vanilla notes, bitter orange, faint grapefruit aroma. Tastes of floral hops, light orange marmalade, caramelised sugars, hint of mango, hops, pine. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, bitter finish.

Bottle from Belgium in a Box; Poured cloudy amber with substantial white head, funky yeasty aroma, sweet hoppy taste with a slight hint of almost resinous mouth feel.

Bottle. Fruity, almost funky, and not that bitter. You could say that it’s well balanced or you could say that it’s not that hoppy. At least not in a bitter way. I don’t understand this beer. It’s not bad... it’s just a bit shy.

A copperbrown beer with a dense, medium and blond head. Aroma is fresh and fruitfull, tropical fruits, peaches and grapefruits, some pine, balanced fructose, also nice "belgian"fruits. Surprisingly, lots of bitterness at the beginning, that is slightly piney and herbal, fruits, hint of spicyness, also sweetness and overally balanced taste, aftertaste of herbal and quite dry. Medium bodied, enjoyable, fresh to drink. The great belgian-IPA, nicely balanced with IPA and sophisticated belgian elements.

13/07/2012 330ml bottle. Corpo medio, carbonatazione soft. Deludente.

33 cl. bottle @ Kulminator // Struise’s version of Vuur & Vlam // last “easily” available Struise to try, been putting this one off for some reason // brown apricot amber, looks thick & creamy with a solid white head // nose is a blend of sweet caramel, sweet pine hops, small dash of exotic fruits, marmalade & caramel malts, there is hops in here but it is going more towards a light hoppy barleywine than an IPA, like the Svea IPA which I tried on draft before // taste is rather sweet caramel malts, toffee, sweet marmalade, blended with some light bitter pine & touch floral hops in the finish, sugar touch exotic fruits // solid caramel malts body, almost touch sticky, firm & peachy // not a traditional IPA just as other Struise IPA offers are but very original & extremely well made

33cl bottle pours hazy copper with thin gold edges and nice enough tan foam head. The modest aroma offers up spicy to earthy like hops with a tad of citrus around the edges. The taste has smooth almost neutral notes to starts and then quickly rolls into various hop flavors like spicy, earthy, a bit citrus and faint floral hops. To midway it picks up a mild level of hop bitterness to go along with the flavor notes. The flavor doesn’t burst with hops or hit you with the classic richness that comes from western US offerings. Still pretty decent stuff. I’m not picking up much in the way of a Flanders like influence.

Flavour is hoppy with resin and some exotic fruits. Also some disturbing element I am unable to describe. Flavour is also hoppy and slightly sweet with exotic fruits, some resin and hints of grapefruit. Nice.
