Anna (1902-1993) was our grandfather’s sister; Hill Farmstead Brewery rest upon the land that was once home to her and her 13 siblings. In her honor, this honey Farmstead® ale is crafted from American malted barley, European and American hops, Vermont wildflower honey, our distinctive farmhouse yeast and water from our well. Unfiltered and naturally carbonated, this is the ale that I dream to have shared with Anna.

On tap @ Owl Farm in BK. Cute half pint-sized glass. Could golden straw color. Tons of lace. Yeasty, slightly buttery, with a sweet(honey?) edge to it. It’s all about the mouthfeel. Taste has a bakery of flavors going on. Yeast+salt+a soft & silky floral edge that must be the honey. Twinge of lemon on the finish to keep it farmhouse. Body is foamy & light. Mildly carbed, a bit stronger then expected. Damn tasty.

Tap. Straw gold, white head doesn't last. Floral with limey grapes (dry Riesling) barely ripe nectarines, moderate funk. Low carbonation - could have used just a few more bubbles. Tart fruit, lean dry body with hints of brioche. Moderately bitter finish w some spices. Elegant. Taut finish holds all elements together. Lovely.

Draught at Mikkeller & Friends Copenhagen.
Pale golden, moderate hazy body, with a big, fluffy, lacing, off-white head.
Lovely aroma of barnyard, young cheese, elderflowers, citrus, green apples
Tastes quite similar, with more green apples and subtle honey.
Medium, slick mouthfeel, with a fizzy carbonation.
Finishes smooth, floral, fruity, a bit funky, with lingering green apples, pears, some citrus.

Amazing! So fresh and balanced, while with an outstanding depth. Lovely combination of funk, floral notes, loads of crisp fruits and just enough honey for some body. Almost perfect, I could drink this all day.

Tap at L'eremitage before Quintessence 2018. Hazy yellow with a white head. Grassy, fresh, citrusy and floral with a light rustic barnyard feel to it. Perfect summer saison.

Vermont honey ale, one of Hill Farmstead's classics, from tap at Ermitage during their Quintessence party. Papery lacing, cream white, opening head over a hazy golden blonde beer with olive greenish tinge. Aroma of lime juice, margarine, pineapple, minerals, sourdough, dried field flowers which I suppose represents the honey, carambola, chalk, cucumber. Crisp, fruity-sour onset, slight banana peel sweetishness surrounded by wry unripe green plum and some lime notes, strong and fizzy carbonation, sourdough-like, bit soapy basis, chalky and minerally aspects lingering, dryingly sour finish with a retronasal hint of lime (even lemongrass), quite bright and vivid. Not the most complex sour ale around certainly within this hyped brewery's range, but solid, crisp and colourful, highly drinkable.

Tap at ermitage. Hazy yellow with white head. Sweet and sour grain, wheat, citrus and grass. Medium sweet and sour and bitter. Medium body and soft carbonation. // At home from “growler” after the excellent Ace & Kees festival. Clear golden with white head, sweet and sour grain, lemon rind, elderflower, light lavender honey, very floral, daisy hearts, dare I say it some carboardy notes in the finish. Moderate sweet and quite some sour. Medium body, soft carbonation, champaigny, cool breezy feel. Nice stuff. Seems not that complex but there’s just not many breweries getting this done right. --- Beer merged from original tick of Anna on 03 May 2018 at 10:48 - Score: 8
