Black ale with aromas and flavours of vanilla, dark chocolate, bourbon and roasted malt. The vanilla and cocoa marry nicely, without out-competing each other, to produce a surprisingly well balanced beer. This beer is mildly hoppy, but the cocoa introduces a touch of bitterness. Its colour may be intimidating, but it is a very smooth beer within reach of most beer drinkers. This highly appreciated dessert beer is brewed with organic fair-trade cocoa and first rate vanilla beans.

Bottle from saveur-biere.com, bottled 03/13. Black body with some red reflections and a small, brown, creamy head, that dissipates completely. Sweet aroma of dark chocolate, vanilla, ripe banana, roasted malt. Taste with the same aromas, sweet, a lot of dark chocolate, vanilla, roast and toast from the background. Medium mouthfeel, with a satisfying, thick, oily texture, lively carbonation and a bitter chocolate and roasty finish. You don’t need a dessert, this is the dessert! At the same time it isn’t too sweetened, very well balanced and smooth. A skillful brew!

Draft at GBD as Dieu du Ciel Aphrodite. This beer poured a pitch, almost oil black color with a medium sized tan head. Aroma was full of coffee, bitter dark chocolate notes, roasted malts, dried fruits (figs). Flavor was creamy lactose, dark, roasted malts. Some light bitterness comes through from the roasted character as well as from the earthy hops. Pretty darn drinkable and quite a robust flavor that shows you don’t need some kind of alcohol bomb to produce a good stout.

341ml bottle form Brewdog online shop, shared with jeevan. Jet black pour, dark brown head. Aromas of coffee, bourbon, vanilla, chocolate. Like a sweeter stout, or a much bigger beer than this. Crammed a lot in there for 6.5%, aroma-wise. And taste-wise! Full mouthfeel, goes from sweet chocolate to roasted bitter, back to vanilla and then to spirit-warmth. Lovely beer, big but very drinkable. Wish I’d got a couple more now...

Poured from 341mL bottle. Pours black with minimal tan head. Strong roasted coffee aroma with mildly light vanilla overtones. Flavour starts slightly sweet with some vanilla and chocolate and moves to a bitter roasted coffee flavour. Full mouthfeel.

Wow, this is excellent! Pours a thick black with a tan head. Nose is toasted malt, vanilla, cocoa. Taste is more of these flavours, solid bitterness from the roasted malt and dark chocolate. Perfectly balanced.
