Reminiscent of warm days on a tropical vacation, Island Jams is a Piña Colada inspired Milkshake style DIPA brewed with Lactose, Double Dry Hopped with Citra+Mosaic, and conditioned on an insane amount of Pineapple Purée, Coconut, and Vanilla.

Massive notes of ripe pineapple, rich coconut cream pie, fresh squeezed OJ, and sweet tropical fruit smoothie.

On tap at Rocky Hill Inn in Rocky Hill, NJ. Hazy gold color. Small creamy beige head. Tropical fruit aroma hints at citrus and pineapple. Flavor follows nose. Added notes of coconut and vanilla. Some spicy hops on backend. Creamy mouthfeel.

Tap@Peders, Copenhagen From all of US to all of us Takeover (30/01/2020) - very hazy golden yellow with a white head. Solid fruity with notes of vibrant exotic fruit with a lactose sweet prominence, lots of coconut, pineapple, pina colada vibe going on, interesting.

473ml can. Hazy, dark yellow-ish, golden colour with average to huge, thick, creamy, moderately to mostly lasting, moderately lacing, white head. Citrusy and tropical fruity aroma, notes of pineapple, passion fruit, some vanilla, a touch of lemon, whiffs of coconut. Taste is sweet-ish, nutty, intense notes of coconut, fruity and slightly citrusy hoppy, some passion fruit and pineapple, some lemon, hints of vanilla, some sugary sweetness; lingering, sweet and minimally sticky finish. Slightly unbalanced, coconut-dominated - quite nice overall.

Coconut- and pineapple-flavoured milkshake IPA, thanks Sérgio (the brewer of Totenhopfen in Luxemburg) for sharing. Papery lacing, off-white, mousy, stable head on a misty apricot blonde beer with ochre-ish hue. Aroma very strongly coconut-forward (coconut milk), some pineapple jam but much less outspoken than the coconut, blood orange, vanilla custard, dough, milk powder, powder sugar, ground hazelnuts somewhere, nougat. Sweet and creamy onset with a citric twist to it, pineapple indeed in a candied- or jam-like way, hints of mango, lychee and blood orange, fizzy carb (quite sharpish for the style but not to a bothersome degree); full, supple, soft body with lactose creaminess – and sweetness on top of the malt sweetness. Becomes highly aromatized very quickly, by tropical hops (mango) but even more so by vanilla (love it) and most predominantly so by the coconut; some light and late powdery bitterness lingers, but creamy lactose sweetness and coconut last for a long(er) time. This is about as decadent as it gets in the vast IPA world, but I seem to have a thing for milkshake IPAs if they are well done, and that certainly is the case here. This kind of desserty sweetness was unthinkable in any IPA as little as ten years ago, but here we are – products like this are bound to attract a large audience, and frankly I would like to see an adventurous Belgian brewery tackle this offspring of the ubiquitous New England IPA (the only one who has successfully done a milkshake IPA in this country so far that I know of, is Totem, so hopefully others will follow).

Draft at Paragon, 1/21/20.  Murky orange, off white head, heavy lace.  Straight up pine colada, vanilla, sugar, pineapple and coconut.  Really really sweet.  Like drinking sugar.  Flavors are good, but just too sweet for me.   7/4/6/3/13
