One of the earliest examples of Russian Imperial Stouts in the United States, Expedition Stout offers immensely complex flavors crafted specifically with aging in mind.

A huge malt body is matched with a heady blend of chocolate, dark fruit and other aromas. The flavors will slowly meld and grow in depth as the beer ages in your cellar.

Bottle, from trade with theepeeist. It’s a black beer with a tiny reddish touch. A dense, tan head sits on top. Slightly cellarish on the nose, with burnt and roasted malts, dried fruits and alchol. Coffee-bitter flavor with dried fruits and alcohol, full-bodied, oily and warming. Burnt, bitter finish. Have to admit I forgot to use my pen most of the time when drinking this, but managed to jot down a few notes. A wonderful beer. 091016

Pours a nice thick, dark black with little to no head. Very smooth-drinking with a nice combination of coffee and chocolate with more than a hint of licorice in the background. Nice smoky, roasted malt aroma. A superior stout.

Sampled at the awesome Boise tasting 1/16/10, thanks Eric for this awesome beer (#7817, February 2007)
Appearance: Poured a pure black with a nice tan head
Aroma: Dark fruits, chocolate, coffee, molasses
Taste: Roasted malts, chocolate, dark fruits, bitter hops
This was very smooth and creamy. The hops balance this out nicely between the roasted malts and alcohol. This was my favorite from a night of awesome beers. I savored this as long as I could, wow.

Bottle thanks to mcbackus: Poured a deep dark oil black with a beige to light brown head. The aroma is that of dark chocolate and molasses. Taste has more of that dark chocolate mixed with roasted coffee malt characteristics. The alcohol and hops give you a bitter finish just to make sure your awake inside. This was an excellent beer to drink for #2000!

(bottle) aroma of longans and molasses; small brownish head; black colour; flavour of molasses, malt, bit of dry longans and dark chocolate; medium bitter finish with some mineral character; well hidden alcohol; somewhat thick palate; excellent after over a decade in the cellar

bottle, pours a thick black, thin dark brown head. Dark cherry and prune fruit in the aroma, along with dark chocolate and tons of roasted maltyness. Smells nice. Bittersweet roasted malt that is full bodied and has a light carbonation that is nice on the tip of the tongue. Some chewy bitter cocoa and hops follow into a lingering bitter expresso finish. This is really top notch, and so easy to drink at 10.5. I’m a fan.

Bottle. Blackish with brown highlights and a tiny light tan head. Choclate malt aroma with toffee and a bit of hops. Rich malt with roast and coffee and backing hops. More bitterness than I wuld expect. Fuller bodied. Malt lingers and turn to a piney/resiny bitterness. Alcohol noticeable, but compliments. Nice complexity.

#400 Rating. Bottle. Pitch black with no head. Ripe fruit aroma, chocolate, raisins and a tiny hint of bitter olive in the back. The falvor is dominated by malts, chocolate, coffee, hints of licorice and caramel and some salt. Finishes very bitter. Extremely full bodied. Very nice and I think it will age even better.

Bottle from Batch 8864 at Akkurat. Black with a rather dark brown, small head. Spicy, hops, rosted malts and some sweetness. Huge body and nice complexity!
