Fresh! Excellent! Already good balance. Alot of coffee and not to sweet. My kind of imperial stout.

9 January 2022. Bottle from Hopduvel. Bottled: 29/7/21. Cloudy black, small, beige head. Intense aroma of tobacco, toast, brown bread, fondant, date, fig, prune, whisky, espresso, molasses, vague mushroom. Taste has sweet date, fig & prune, yet rather restrained with a sourish blackberry undertone, covered by a big malt body of toast, brown bread, dark chocolate, some caramel and nuts along bitter accents of coffee bean and earthy-umami jerky. Earthy hoppy finish, lingering dried dark fruits, tobacco, fondant and something 'burnt' woody; profoundly malty, nicely hoppy and bitter 'ashy', with warming sweet whisky-like alcohol in the very end, heating the throat but elegantly supported by the malt base. Full body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Still one of my all-time favourites; the perfect blend of a Belgian base profile and a 'new world' hop touch, structured by an excellent roastiness. Hefty but not boozy; complex and elegant. A massive brew.

Extremely tasty and deeply complex. What else can I say than that this is world-class?

23-07-17 // bottle shared at home. Vintage 2015. Pours a deep black beer with a creamy beige head. Nose of chocolate, coffee beans, fruits. Taste is delicate, heavy bitter chocolate and espresso with some dried mild fruid in the background. Great!

O dziwo alko, ale ulata. Potem jest sups, zlozone, sojowe, chlebowe, bombonierkowe, w ciemno bym strzelal, ze byl w beczce. Czadzik!

2015 bottle. Such an enormous sweet stout, full of chocolate and molasses and dark, overripe fruits, an absolute monster of a brew. Nose almost comes across like a boozy Mudslide, thick with chocolate and coffee and a noticeable liquor back. Appearance is black as oil and almost as viscous, with a heavy brown head leaving no lace. Taste starts big and only grows bigger, massive Hershey syrup meeting Kahlua and anise, dried fig and black cherry meshing with a touch of black pepper and mild hop bitterness on the finish. Mocha fade gives up no heat despite the 13% ABV. A touch too sweet for me to be in love, but damned if it isn’t a drinkable beast, the smooth texture and lack of any burn making it scary how quickly my pint is disappearing. Let’s tick this baby up to 4, just for posterity’s sake.

330ml bottle a few times. The most memorable was with Kate the great and a kabbert. Pours out black topped with a small tan head. Nose is big roast malts smoke coffee and ashtray coal note. Taste is more of the rich roast malts coffee dark chocolate and ash.
