This big mother of a Russian Imperial Stout is often considered one of our true classics. Despite the 13% ABV, you'll find Black Albert to be dangerously drinkable. With its thick, tar-like body, it's definitely a sipper, but the alcohol is very well-hidden.

Shared 11.2 oz. bottle. Pours almost black with a dark tan head. Aroma of dark fruits, coffee, chocolate, and alcohol. Similar taste. The finish is a bit acidic and sweet and lacks bitterness; it almost has some vinous characteristics to it. It’s good but not great. Had higher hopes for a Top 100 beer.

0.33 l bottle from ’Firma Bier’, 2015 vintage, best before May 2020. Pitch black with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, brown head. Sweetish-malty, moderately roasty and slightly fruity aroma of dark chocolate, nougat, toffee and dark ripe fruits. Sweet-malty, slightly roasty and minimally fruity taste of dark chocolate, cocoa, nougat, toffee and hints of dark ripe fruits, followed by a long, moderately roasty-bitter, slightly alcoholic and warming finish. Full body, syrupy mouthfeel, flat. Delicious brew, rather sweet, dangerously drinkable.

re-sampled Feb 2017, vintage 2015: Pitch black pour with a dark espresso head. Notes of dark fruit, roasted malts, molasses, dark chocolate, caramel, bitter cherries, roasted coffee beans. Roasty but sweet and quite fruity. Much better than the previous one I tried. Pitch black pour with a dark espresso head that doesn’t linger much. Dark roasted malts, dark chocolate, some dark cherries and a bit of vanilla. Thick and full-bodied, with medium carbonation. 3.8/5

Pitch black color with big tan head. Aroma is coffee, but not too roasted, figs and prunes. Taste is rich, more dark fruits, a good amount of sweetness, but perfectly balanced, also with a perfectly balanced booziness, some Belgian candied sugar feeling. Bittersweet finish. High but fine-bubbled carbonation, quite a creamy mouthfeel. Hugely complex, this beer lives up to its reputation. The perfect mixture between Belgianness and Imperial Stout.
