This big mother of a Russian Imperial Stout is often considered one of our true classics. Despite the 13% ABV, you'll find Black Albert to be dangerously drinkable. With its thick, tar-like body, it's definitely a sipper, but the alcohol is very well-hidden.

Refrigerated 11.2 brown bottle poured into a snifter. Pours black with medium light brown head. Aroma is nice milk chocolate, thick body, medium carbonation, and small bubble lacing. Taste is sweet candy sugar, chocolate, solid floral hop backbone, dry coffee, and fruit which peaks out from time to time. Complex, not easy to drink, but still very good.

33cl bottle thanks to allmyvinyl. Appearance - intensely dark beer with a rich dark crema head. Nose - apples, then a touch of toffee some demerara sugar. Taste - rich treacle and fruit cake, some oranges Palate - big structure with a rich texture and a relatively elegant finish. Overall - big rich beer.

330ml bottle at home. Pours jet black with 1cm long-lasting light brown head. Aromas of whisky-soaked fruit cake, coffee, rumβnβraisin, then just a touch of iron. Tastes decadent! Rich and voluptuous. Oily in a good way, medium carbonation helps lift it from being cloying. Faint hop bitterness, teeth-coating sweetness, somehow balancing. Beer as art.

The Struise brewers are true magicians. The Black Albert is one of their older tricks and has been the basis for many special brews. But you shouldn't forget the original. This imperial stout is awesome. Update. Time for a proper rating after this rave from years ago. Bottle, black pour. Rich aroma of chocolate, licorice, creamy caramel, coffee, vanilla, raisin and malt. Taste has smooth coffee, red grapes, chocolate, raisin, licorice, vanilla, caramel, roasted malt, sweet yeast, oak and a long fruity finish. Thick smooth mouthfeel. Truly a Belgian imperial stout, with a touch of port wine. This is still as great as I remembered it to be, good to know Struise retains some of its glory. Rating stays the same.

Had this at the De Struise Tap Takeover at Churchkey. I had already had the Black Damnation V - Double Black a few months ago, so I was really looking forward to trying the base beer of that one. This one poured a completely pitch black color with a small tan head. Aroma was dark fruits, bitter chocolate notes, caramel malts, really roasted notes. Flavor was dark fruits, caramel notes. Alcohol was almost non-existent. Certainly one of the best tasting imperial stouts Iβve had in quite some time. This Belgian was impressed.

Black with dark creamy head. Aroma is very dry and woody. Also some liquorice. Texture is quite thick and syrupy with a fine but intense carbonation. Flavour is rather sweet with treacle and liquorice. The alcohol adds a dry element though. Hints of prunes and a little smokey chocolate in the finish.
