This big mother of a Russian Imperial Stout is often considered one of our true classics. Despite the 13% ABV, you'll find Black Albert to be dangerously drinkable. With its thick, tar-like body, it's definitely a sipper, but the alcohol is very well-hidden.

Bottle. Pours black with a small light head. Aroma is cacao, dark malts, molasses, caramel. Big body. Flavour is complex dark malts, chocolate, coffee, caramel, molasses. Lovely roast and malt character.

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ van Rooij, Culemborg. Black with a beige head. Gentle roasted malt aroma with some chocolate. Sweet taste with a very light sour note and a long smooth finish. Alcohol is very well hidden. Great Belgian stout.

Bottle from Sophie's Beer Store. Aroma has a coffee and liqourice core, with a boozy streak and roast. However there's also a sweetness to it, liquor and dough. Dark and glossy. Frothy tan head soon recedes. Sweet and tangy sour edged berries over medium bitter liqourice and coffee. Low key booze. Makes me think of liqour filled dark chocolate... is there a variety that also includes liqourice? Medium bodied. Oily. Flat carbonation. Long astringent finish. As I drink more it develops more boozy warmth.
