This big mother of a Russian Imperial Stout is often considered one of our true classics. Despite the 13% ABV, you'll find Black Albert to be dangerously drinkable. With its thick, tar-like body, it's definitely a sipper, but the alcohol is very well-hidden.

Bottle in yet another visit to Kulminator with my dad, July 23, 2020. BB: Sep 2015. It pours pitch black with a reddish cast and a long-lasting (despite the age), thin, tan-to-camel hued head. Aroma is not strikingly intense, rather medium-intensity. Being an old ale, it's no surprise to find first some oxidizing scents, such as red apple, but nothing unpleasant. It then yields way to the foreseen stout aromas, the likes of caramel, coffee, blueberries, mulled wine, even a nice tinge of raisins. Mouthfeel is slightly acidic, rendering a fresh feeling to it that makes it less strong than the label promised, and much more enjoyable than some of its bitterer counterparts. Talking about bitterness, it's present and well balanced. Aftertaste brings molasses, coffee and milk chocolate and lasts for a good while. Very nice.

2016 vintage. No gusher! Very high on carbonation, though, pretty sharp mouthfeel, not very thick. Smell is roasty, metallic. Taste is metallic, lots of coffee roast, and heavy bitterness. Oldschool style RIS, but clearly with some flaws. Still enjoyable.

Vintage 2016 Smell- medium to weak, malt, roast, smoke. Foam- thin to medium, alcohol, roast, coffee, malt. Foam is medium to large, dark brown, white color, a bit darker than usual. Quite good looking foam to be honest. Appearance- generic bottlecap, simple but somewhat interesting bottle and again has that nice carbonation look I like, very dark brown-red color, but cant see-through, so black. Taste- malt, sweetness, alcohol, roast, weak bitter notes in back, some acidic tones and more malt and alcohol, very decent, but I was expecting bit more, but I must be honest, it grows on you after time.
