As Game of Thrones approaches its final season, Brewery Ommegang and HBO Global Licensing are excited to announce the launch of the Royal Reserve Collection, a collectible series of four special, limited release beers, each designed and brewed as an homage to one of four epic figures in the battle for the Seven Kingdoms. Packaged as a series, with simple, elegant iconography and sophisticated design representative of select Westerosi houses, each beer will be brewed and blended with ingredients selected to match the character and temperament of the chosen hero, designed and brewed as Brewery Ommegang’s interpretation of what a royal brewer might brew for his or her noble master.
The first beer in the series is Hand of the Queen, a beer brewed for Tyrion Lannister. As one who knows a great many things, Tyrion knows and loves wine above all else, so Hand of the Queen is a big, bold barleywine, a beer fit for those who seek knowledge and truth, both great and small.

Pours a clear dark copper color with a medium thick off-white head that diminishes gradually to a film. Small patches of lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of yeast, dark fruit, spice and malt. Full-bodied with flavors of earthy yeast, dark fruits, caramel malt and spice. The finish is fruity yeast and malt. Pretty good overall.

Raisin, orange, toffee malt, and green hay aroma. Hazy dark amber with small head. Moderately sweet raisin/candied orange, toffee malt, and mildly bitter/astringent fresh hay flavor. Good body. Pretty good but seems a little green - probably could use some aging.

Not bad, expected way worse for some reason. Malty caramel. Was saving this for the show returning but ddp is more important! #discorddrinkingproject came out of the fridge at a nice barleywine 55F degrees too.

750mL bottle pours with a clear deep copper mahogany colored body that supports a nice light tan head of foam. The aroma offers up brown sugar dredged figs, dates and plums as well as molasses and booze and a thin cherry like note. The taste delivers similar notes with figs, plums and dates blended into brown sugar and molasses. This is pretty smooth with plenty of fruity esters that have a thin sense of brightness. A bit of cellar time may improve this.

Draft pour at Lost Dog - North Arlington. Poured a ruby orange color with a small off-white head. Aroma was dried fruits, dark malts, light toasted notes. Sweet, slightly boozy, but much smoother than I expected going into this. Pretty tasty.
