Anchor Porter became the first modern American porter style beer when it was introduced in 1972. A blend of specially roasted pale, caramel, chocolate, and black malts, along with our top-fermenting yeast, creates complexity without bitterness. The brew is hopped at a high rate, and naturally carbonated. The result is dark in the glass, but surprisingly light on the palate.

12 ounce bottle. Dark translucent brown color with reddish highlights. Big rocky tan head. Rich roasted malt aroma has notes of dried fruit, coffee and floral hops. Sweet roasted malt flavor is rich and complex with notes of chocolate, coffee and toasted nuts. Chewy and thick with a creamy mouthfeel. Rich and earthy with complex layers of malt and hop flavors. This is truly one of the best American made porters I have ever tasted. Very drinkable.

Tap at the Brewhouse, Sheffield. Clear, chestnut brown. Thin, tan head. Can’t imagine I can add anything that’s not already been said. A lovely porter. Smooth. Fruity. Dry. Good stuff

Famous American porter with deeply beige (almost brown) foam, thick and creamy, and a near to black colour with a copperish hue. Rich malty aroma, chocolatey and caramel-like with lots of dark fruits and appetising spicy notes; taste likewise, a deep, soft, mellow, almost buttery dark maltiness, caramel and chocolate, dark fruits, finish toasted bitterness with an oily, vinous mouthfeel - or should I say, throatfeel. Absolutely delicious, a pity it’s hard to get in Western Europe, otherwise I’d have this every week.

Very dark brown with stable, beige head. Aroma has chocolate and caramel, roasted malt also. Flavour has brown sugar and discrete, vinous alcohol. Good one.

355ml bottle. Dark brown-black colour, tan foam head leaving some lacing and aroma of roast malt, molasses, raisins, chocolate, coffee. Taste is sweet chocolatey malt, tangy, with raisins, dark fruits, nutty, coffee, roast bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, sweetish tangy lingering roasted bitter finish. Very drinkable.
