Anchor Porter became the first modern American porter style beer when it was introduced in 1972. A blend of specially roasted pale, caramel, chocolate, and black malts, along with our top-fermenting yeast, creates complexity without bitterness. The brew is hopped at a high rate, and naturally carbonated. The result is dark in the glass, but surprisingly light on the palate.

Thought this was a re-rate...didn’t think I hadn’t rated it before
Pitch black, big tan head, nice lacing
Aroma of rich quite sweet dark malts, some spicy hop in there, sweet dark sugars, very soft roast
Taste as aroma, slight liquorice, not a particularly complex porter but some nice dark bit spicy malts in there
Palate - Soft carb., medium body, soft creamy. Finish is soft bitter, now getting a bit of chocolate on the tail
Overall - I’d liked to have more than in this wee bottle, little roast in here, it’s mainly dark malts - quite a decent porter

Bottle from Magasin du Nord, Kgs Nytorv, DK. Pours black with huge creamy tan head. Intense sweet smell of ripe fruits, sweet botrytized muscat wine. Aroma is complex with dried plums, raisins, figs, dates, caramel, roasted malts. Palate is sweet but not too much

Look: almost black with red highlights, beige creamy head.
Aroma: intense dried fruit (prunes, raisins), some chocolate, toasty, not much roast.
Taste: mostly dried fruit, some chocolate, a hint of acid astringency, dry moderate bitterness, some ashes in the finish.
An excellent fruity porter.

I poured this one into a pint glass.
The appearance was a dark brown color with a nice one finger white foamy head. This one had a nice coating of lacing rimming the glass after the head died after a minute.
The smell was dark and roasty with a nice underlying chocolate coming in to balance the coffee that made a slight appearance.
The taste was roasty and sweet and still had a decent bitterness from the coffee coming about in to it. There’s no aftertaste but did have a quick dry finish.
On the palate, it sat about a light to medium on the body with a decent sessionability aspect to it. The carbonation was somewhat smooth and ends up leaving a decent coating over my mouth and tongue.
Overall, I say this was a good American Porter that I would have again.

Bottle at Piccadilly, Bod�. The colour is pitch black and with a medium, beige and creamy head. The aroma has lots of chocolate, dried fruit, sweet licorice and coffee. Fantastic. The flavour is more roasted with touches of cold coffee and dark chocolate. Has a slick, soft and rich mouth feel, and a light bitterness. An easy drinking, sweet and well-balanced porter.

355ml bottle from beers of Europe. Black colour, minimal brown head. Aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malty. Taste has a nice light sweetness, with a medium bitter finish. If I was a porter at Spitalfields Market I would love it!

Pours a very beautiful deep black color and is covered wit ha decent tan colored head that stays around for some time. The aroma is slighty roasted, some fruits also present. The taste starts with a nice bitterness and is followed by slightly roasted body, lots of coffee. Finishes with a decent bitterness. Not my favourite Anchor, but very nice nad easily enjoyable.
