Anchor Porter became the first modern American porter style beer when it was introduced in 1972. A blend of specially roasted pale, caramel, chocolate, and black malts, along with our top-fermenting yeast, creates complexity without bitterness. The brew is hopped at a high rate, and naturally carbonated. The result is dark in the glass, but surprisingly light on the palate.

Black with creamy mocca head. Black chocolate, dried red fruits, cranberry, almost burnt toast. Taste is nicely balanced between sweet, tart and burnt-bitter. Medium-light bodied with average carbonation. Tasty and very drinkable, love it.

Rating from 2010: Chremfarbiger, stabiler und fast cremeartiger Schaum. Karamell-creme. Der Antrunk ist schwer, aber frisch. Leicht hopfig-grasig. Der Hauptteil ist säuerlich-dickflüssig-süßlich-malzig. wirkt schwer, alkoholisch. Der Nachgeschmack ist Kaffee, Schokolade. Dickflüssig-schwer-dunkel. Auf der Zunge bleibt ein langer trocken-malziger und leicht herber Nachgeschmack. --> 10/11/12/11

Bottle from bier-deluxe.de. Dark brown body with creamy beige head. Wow, what an aroma! Ripe banana, dark chocolate, roast malt, nut, vanilla, still very fresh! The taste is even better, again this wonderful ripe banana, dark chocolate, vanilla and then comes a hop bitterness, not to agressive, just to balance the whole thing. Creamy palate, with a good carbonation and a bit astringent. Again: wow! Fantastic aromas in the nose and even more in the mouth and although it is a somehow heavy beer it so smooth to drink. Perfectly balanced! This deserves to be the highest rated beer from this great brewery.
