Anchor Porter became the first modern American porter style beer when it was introduced in 1972. A blend of specially roasted pale, caramel, chocolate, and black malts, along with our top-fermenting yeast, creates complexity without bitterness. The brew is hopped at a high rate, and naturally carbonated. The result is dark in the glass, but surprisingly light on the palate.

I usually like porters, but this one is too creamy and especially too sweet for me. Bummer.

Re-rate. White lady. Bottle. Up 2. Nothing metallic this time. Bottle at home. Dark brown, near black, with a good, lingering off-white head. Creamy, nutty aroma, with hints of coffee and chocolate. Something sour on the taste though, and too much sweetness for me, not enough roasty bitterness. Some caramel and burnt orange at the end, then going weirdly metallic . Not bad, but not as good as I?d hoped.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 11/26/2012. Pours nearly opaque dark brown color with a nice 2 finger dense and fluffy tan head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of caramel, toast, toffee, chocolate, molasses, dark bread, raisin, light roast, and toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark bready malt and light roasted notes; with good strength. Taste of caramel, toast, molasses, chocolate, toffee, dark bread, floral, light roast, raisin, and toasted earthiness. Lingering notes of caramel, toast, toffee, chocolate, molasses, dark bread, light roast, raisin, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Awesome balance and complexity of dark and bready malt flavors; with good roast/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a creamy and lightly slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a highly excellent porter! All around great balance and complexity of bready and dark malt flavors; and very smooth to drink. A highly enjoyable offering.

Bottle. Black body with a creamy beige head. Good lacing. Aroma of Coco Pops, milk chocolate, prune, plum and red grape. Flavour of chocolate, raisin, cranberry and a hint of black pepper. Medium body with a smooth, luscious mouthfeel. Soft carbonation. Very smooth and moreish. An outstanding Porter, full of roasted flavours with a subtle edge of tangy fruit.

Pours almost black, rubied, with a huge, dark tan head. Aroma is chocolate/banana.....roast. Taste is creamy, chocolate, light coffee bean, banana, Slight smoke. Spiced bitter that lingers. Exceptionally good.

zwart, met schuimig bruine kraag, schenkt als motorolie aroma: zoet, chocolade, caramout, gebrande mouten, rood fruit, aroma is prima smaken: medium body, stevig bitter, zeer sterk, donkere fruiten, geroosterde- cara- en gebrande mouten, peper, noten. medium body, romig, laag co2, smaak minder als aroma, te bitter en te lang nadrukkelijk aanwezig.

Dark brown/black. Medium carbonation. Not a lot of alcohol but a very complex aroma of coffee, dark chocolat, caramel and liquorice. Very good porter
