St. Bernardus Prior 8 is a traditional abbey beer, brewed in the classic dubbel style. The original recipe dates back to the times when we still brewed under licence for the monks of Westvleteren.

330ml bottle @Bir&Fud Bottega (Rome). Bruna, intensa, schiuma bianco-sporca/beige media. Al naso note di malto, caramello, frutta candita, fichi secchi. In bocca è dolce, calda, avvolgente, con finale amaro a bilanciare. Corpo medio, carbonazione medio-bassa. Ok.

33cl bottle from Conad Ipermercato, Rimini, Italy. Pours pretty dark brown, almost a little purple, with whitish/pinkish foam, medium grain. Aroma is yeasty, caramel, malty. Body is fairly dense, and carbonated. Taste is fairly sweet, with decent bitterness. Finish is moderately long but delicate.

33 cl bottle. Foamy tan head dissapates quickly. Rich malty nose has notes of dried fruit. Sweet toasted malt flavor. Burnt sugar, currants, plums and brown bread. Rich and fruity with high carbonation. Sticky, oily mouthfeel. Long malty finish.

Reddish brown, thick off white head. Smell and flavour are both rich, malty fruit though the taste mellows out fairly quickly. Caramel smooths out the edges of some bitter citrus and there's some sweet banana in the aftertaste. Lovely stuff.
