St. Bernardus Prior 8 is a traditional abbey beer, brewed in the classic dubbel style. The original recipe dates back to the times when we still brewed under licence for the monks of Westvleteren.

Bottle from Belgiuminabox. Pours a very very dark brown almost black colour with a tint of red and a medium sized creamy beige head. Nice lacing. Aromas of dry dark fruits, caramel, toffee, molasses, plums, hints of banana, brown bread and brown sugar. Taste has all the same notes as the aroma, very fruity and flavourful. Lively carbonation on the palate. Medium to full bodied with a long dark fruit (plum) finish. Extremely well balanced. it is a top notch beer! The bald St.Bernardus monk does it again! Bravo

0,33 bottle. Beige nice big foam, chestnut brown color. The beer is nice, the bottle doesn't come in so much. Slightly caramel, malt aroma, dried fruity, delicious. More carbonated than expected. Full, full-bodied, caramel flavor, prunes, cognac. The alcohol doesn’t feel too much, a delicious round little brown beer. Complex aftertaste, the color and foam throughout is beautiful. It’s a little sour for me and too carbonated, and maybe a little too sweet. Of course, it’s a delicious dessert beer. With less added sugar, it might have been world class, but that’s not very outstanding for me.

Bézs színű szép nagy hab, gesztenye-barna szín. Szép a sör, az üveg annyira nem jön be. Enyhén karamelles, malátás illat, aszalt gyümölcsös, finom. A vártnál szénsavasabb.

Draught @ Ginger Man - NYC (1/8/20). Clear dark brown with reddish-copper highlights, large spongy tan head, caramel-spices aroma, low carbonation, medium bitter caramel taste with cloves-nutmeg, dried red fruits, smooth body, long finish. Great dubbel!

0.33 l bottle at Old City Pub, Pula. Shared with little Dina. Hazy amber, small lasting beige head. Aroma is syrupy malty, fruity and nutty. Red berries. Caramely. Light spices. Light alcohol in flavour. Quite sweet. Strong. Light but lasting malty finish. Soft texture but thick. Pleasant although not as rich.

One of my favourites, poured from a bottle bought in a Belgian supermarket for just over 1 euro. Amazing! Pours a beautiful dark brown colour with a nice beige head. Aroma is lovely, Sweet and creamy, lots of malt with a little bit of hoppiness. Taste is medium sweet, bit of honey and chocolate and nice and rich. Nice and full body with a lovely smooth aftertaste. Great beer, not at all flashy, but beautiful in its simplicity.

Malt and liquorice in the aroma. Sweetish taste with a hint of roasted malt. Liquorice, chocolate and blackcurrant. Bit tart. It is not the real Westy, but it will certainly do as a substitute.
