Hapkin is a strong blond top-fermented beer that is refermented in the bottle. The floral touch of Saazhop and the spicy hop variety Monroe determine this rich blond beer. Originally from Louwaege Brewery (Kortemark), brewed from 2001 to 2007 at Brasserie Union (Jumet), then at Alken-Maes (Alken).
The name refers to Count Baudouin VII of Flanders (1093-1119), nicknamed “Hapkin” or “with the ax”. 900 years ago he is said to have commissioned the monks of Ten Duinen Abbey (near Koksijde) to brew a strong blond beer that would make him and his men invincible.

33cl bottle from Iperconad, Rimini, Italy. Pours classic gold, fairly hazy, with a good head of white foam, fine. Aroma is highly fruity, yeasty, figs. Body is dense, with quite an alcoholic feeling and good carbonation. Taste is quite sweet, but matched to that strong alcohol feeling. Finish is not particularly long.

Gezapft im A la mort subite in Brüssel. Golden mit einer angemessenen Schaumkrone. Aroma: Hefe, ein wenig Karamell, Banane, Brot. Geschmack: süßlich, Hefe, etwas Banane, Karamell.

24.11.2018 -- 0.33l bottle from casino geant in st louis, 1.98€, bb 16.07.2019. pours a slightly hazy pale golden with a huge steady head. aroma of caramel yoghurt, candy, slight funk, herbs, flowers, quite aromatic. flavour of caramel, candy, almonds, coriander, herbs. alcohol is well hidden.

Bottle. Color: Clear golden, frothy white head. Aroma: Sweetish malt, hop, yeasty hints. Taste: Yeasty, banana notes, medium sweet malt, moderate floral hopbitterness. Spicy hints. Bittery palate at finish. Medium body, above average carbonation. Ok but not that special.

Bouteille 33cl reçue avec LeSoir, BB 18/12/2019. Dorée, col blanc. Arôme est des plus classique belge, malt pils un peu de cara pour booster l'alcool, nez finemetn mielleux sur des notes de houblons nobles; Palais reste très belge, se ressentant au niveau de la levure, alcool perce bien - un peu la version Duvel de Alken - houblonné finement citronné et fleuri dans le plus classique. Effervescence reste moyenne voire haute. Meh Surement rien à voir avec l'ancienne version.
