Hapkin is a strong blond top-fermented beer that is refermented in the bottle. The floral touch of Saazhop and the spicy hop variety Monroe determine this rich blond beer. Originally from Louwaege Brewery (Kortemark), brewed from 2001 to 2007 at Brasserie Union (Jumet), then at Alken-Maes (Alken).
The name refers to Count Baudouin VII of Flanders (1093-1119), nicknamed “Hapkin” or “with the ax”. 900 years ago he is said to have commissioned the monks of Ten Duinen Abbey (near Koksijde) to brew a strong blond beer that would make him and his men invincible.

Bottle at It Aude Beuthus, Schiermonnikoog. Clear golden with massive white head. Sweet malts, corn based sugar syrup, citrus, strong coriander and cloves, doughy yeast. Moderate sweet and bitter. Medium body, soft carbonation. With a boozy kick.

Shared bottle at RB/HD at Vatlandsvåg 14.07.18. Clear pale yellow. White head and lacing. Sweet aroma and taste of Belgian yeast, ethanol, pilsner malt, white pepper, coriander and fruitiness.

0,33 flaske delt på RBHD-treff i Vatlandsvåg juli-18: lett uklar lys gylden med fint skum som varer. Krydder, stall, gress, florale toner, våt papp og tørkede urter. Urteaktig avslutning hvor maltsødmen kommer til sin rett, men hvor sluttsummen ikke stemmer helt. Kanskje for parfymert?

Shared 330 ml bottle. Pale golden colour, large white head. Strong grassy aroma, notes of spicy yeast, also hints of flowers, herbs and white kandij sugar syrup. Quite sweet and sugary flavour, some spicy yeast and moderate hops, but too much sugar and alcohol in the end.

Il gusto al naso viene catturato dall'orzo. L'olfatto viene sollecitato in maniera elevata e il modo in cui permane è sufficiente. Il cappello di schiuma rimane a lungo nel bicchiere. La grandezza delle bollicine è a grana media. La carbonazione è abbondante. Il liquido è trasparente. Bollicine medio-fini costituiscono la forma della frizzantezza. La carbonazione è allegra e vivace. Il colore è giallo dorato brillante. Il corpo è medio. L'amaro è contenuto. Il tetto della bocca porta note di miele, crosta di pane, cereali, frutta secca, agrumi e alcol invadente.
