Hapkin is a strong blond top-fermented beer that is refermented in the bottle. The floral touch of Saazhop and the spicy hop variety Monroe determine this rich blond beer. Originally from Louwaege Brewery (Kortemark), brewed from 2001 to 2007 at Brasserie Union (Jumet), then at Alken-Maes (Alken).

The name refers to Count Baudouin VII of Flanders (1093-1119), nicknamed “Hapkin” or “with the ax”. 900 years ago he is said to have commissioned the monks of Ten Duinen Abbey (near Koksijde) to brew a strong blond beer that would make him and his men invincible.

Flesje gedronken bij de watermolen. Goudgeel, licht troebel bier met veel en stevig schuim. Aroma is fris en fruitig. Smaak is zoet en fruitig en een beetje hoppig. Nasmaak is iets bitter.

Huge brilliant white head stayed all the way on a translucent light golden, finely carbonated body. Wheat, yeast & grass aroma. Medium bodied, tingly on the tongue & a cloying finish. Yeast, wheat, citrus, spice & herb tastes with a fruity finish.

0.33l bottle. Slightly hazy pale yellow body, quickly disappearing white head. Aroma of bread, tangerine, peach, coriander and floral hops. Taste of bread, tangerine, coriander, cloves and floral hops. Sweet upfront, but the finish is a bit dry. Very nice beer.

0.33 l bottle from ’Bosch Wijnhandel’ (Amsterdam), best before September 2016. Clear, golden yellow with a huge, foamy, almost stable, white head. Sweetish, fruity-spicy aroma of banana, clove, sugar, green apples and citrus. Sweet, yeasty-spicy taste of banana, clove, toffee, sugar, some citrus and green apples, followed by a medium long, moderately bitter, yeasty-spicy finish. Medium to full body, slightly creamy and effervescent mouthfeel, very lively carbonation. Quite sweet, but still good in balance. Typical Belgian yeasty-spicy stuff. Nice!

Clear, golden colored, small not very lasting off white head. Aroma is fruity, some sugar and spices but also solvent and alcohol. Taste is medium sweet sugar, caramel, syrupy fruity, some spice, noticeable alcohol and solvent again, light spicy bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, syrupy.
