Hapkin is a strong blond top-fermented beer that is refermented in the bottle. The floral touch of Saazhop and the spicy hop variety Monroe determine this rich blond beer. Originally from Louwaege Brewery (Kortemark), brewed from 2001 to 2007 at Brasserie Union (Jumet), then at Alken-Maes (Alken).
The name refers to Count Baudouin VII of Flanders (1093-1119), nicknamed “Hapkin” or “with the ax”. 900 years ago he is said to have commissioned the monks of Ten Duinen Abbey (near Koksijde) to brew a strong blond beer that would make him and his men invincible.

Bottle at home few weeks past best before date. Clear golden with fizzy white head. Lemon, spicy yeast, peach, lots of fruity candy and syrup. Marzipan, sweet grains, bitter herbs and grass and bitter alcohol finish. Full bodied with fizzy carbonation. Wow this is weet and quite alcoholic, but when cold is actually pretty good. Later the alcohol really takes over though. Overall better than I expected.

Dorada algo turbia. 3 dedos de espuma poco densa. Aroma frutal.

In Ghent-Belgium, 0,33 bottle. Pours bright hazy golden color, frothy white foam. Nose: not that complex, some floral notes and a citrusy hint. Mouth: inoffensive Belgian Strong, frizzy carbonation, hidden alcohol, malty in a way. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours clear golden with a big, lasting, frothy, white, head. The aroma contains apple, banana, grass, spices, alcohol. It tastes light fruity sweet and medium hoppy bitter, spicy & yeasty. Dry, spicy, hopppy finish, warming jenever-like alcohol. Medium to full body, slick texture, lively carbonation. A good Duvel imitation. (Edited 20/5/18)
