33 cl bottle ordered a while back from Doorstep Brew, sampled on March 31, 2913. BB 29/09/13.Hazy brown color, tan head. Sweet, bread, bisquit, sugary, alcohol scent. The alcohol a bit too evident and overpowers some of the others, dominates too much. Sweet, bread, raisins, lactic, nuts, oily taste. Alcohol is much better hidden in the taste than in the scent, though a warming feeling comes after just a few sips. Smooth mouthfeel, low bitterness. Not one for drinking fast or many in a row, at least not for me and wanting to not get too tipsy, have good flavor, though the scent was too much alcohol indeed.

best before 1 year and 2 days ago ... how did this get so old? even had the BA version before this ... damn ? pours red to black, small white foam. smell is sweet taste is : soft carbo( very good) , rather thick and sweet. damn sweet ! brown sugar. almost reminds me at bourbon in the kind of sweetness this had, especialy in the aftertaste. its ok , as i wanted to give this 3,7 . but every taste i did, i edited my rating ( on paper) lower zith 0,2 points... ended up at about 2 points and drainpour ... just so borning , sweet, ... so lets give it something in the middle

33 cl bottle @ home. Rated on 23.07.2009
Aroma is sweet berries, caramel and some toffee. Flavour is also rather sweet with berry notes, caramel, toffee, some raisins and syrupy notes. Too sweet and too much berries here.

Thought i?ve had this one before, but ratebeer says otherwise. So here we are: bottle at home. Brown colour with some ruby redness shining through, small off-white, lasting head. Smells heavily sweet, hazelnut, malts, wood, raisins. Tastes very, very sugary sweet, ?roze kermis zoetstok?, malty, liquorice and some hazelnut. Medium to heavy body, little to no carbo.

Flaska 33 cl. Mörkt kopparröd. Doft av sötma, karamell och lite torkad frukt. Balanserad sötma i smak med en antydan av alkohol.

Re-rate 9/5/14: Bottle sample at Beer Market Jaffa. Thanks Tom L. Deep reddish amber with a beige head. Sweet aroma of malt, caramel, brown sugar, molasses and dark fruits. Very sweet flavor with caramel, molasses, a bit candy-ish, some dark fruits and a bit of alcohol. Somewhat sticky mouthfeel. Way too sweet. 5/3/5/2/9=2.4

Bottle shared at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Thanks Hansen & Zita for this bottle! Clear deep shiny red color. Aroma of oxidized malt, caramel, alcohol and some fruity notes. Sweet flavor, malty, caramelly and alcoholic. Medium-bodied, slightly syrupy. 4/4/5/3/10=2.6

Aroma is between moderate to heavy malty with notes of molasses and caramel. We also find notes of cherry with alcohol sticking out like a port. Appearance: Amber / brown color, lightly cloudy, with long lasting head, very lacy, creamy and light brown color Flavors are heavy sweet with notes of caramel, toffee, cherry and candy cane. It’s like a candy dipped in alcohol. Palate is medium to full body, oily texture, lively carbonation and alcohol finish. A good beer but too sweet for me.

Total Wine, Fairfax 330ml ($4.50): Pours a brown color with a light brown head. Aroma is malts, nuts, and malts. Taste is just absurdly sweet. Now, I have had sweeter beers, but this one ranks up there with them. Drinking this reminds me of why I usually avoid Scotch Ales. The high ratings do indeed somewhat confuse me.

Tasted Blind at a tasting party in Gent

A - tiny head. Fades fast. Dark brown. SRM of 15

S - tropical fruits. Hard to pick out specifics.

T - Insanely sweet. Like drinking syrup. Not a fan. Tobacco and oak. It’s dominated by all sweetness.

M - 70/30 carb. Heavy body. Sugar syrup finish.

O - I’m tasting blind. This is a barley wine? Hard to tell but it bad. 30/100. Too sweet and too heavy.
