Bloody ‘Ell – We have never brewed a straight IPA at Beavertown, why change the habit of a lifetime! Here we take a stripped back IPA malt bill and highly hop it with the tropics of Amarillo and Citra and pile head on with kilos of Blood Orange zest and juice late in the boil, bringing you a smack of citrus and hints of warm orange aromas. One of our favourite and most popular seasonal brews. We will be canning Bloody ‘Ell too from February until the bloody oranges run dry!

Can from the Old Bicycle Shop, Cambridge. Yellow with a small foamy white head. Orange and grapefruit zest with a pronounced candy sugar aroma. Sweet sweet taste. Now I like a sweet beer but I wasn’t prepares for this in an IPA. Once I get used it, I go with the flow and enjoy it. I don’t get a load of blood orange but there’s a fair wallop in the finish and aftertaste. A tasty an intense IPA from a great brewery.

Keg at the Fox & Hounds, Reading. Orangey-gold with a middling white head and a light fizz. Once it eventually warmed from stupidly cold craft keg temperature to a level where I could actually taste something, I got sweet orange and sweet lemon plus a little caramel in the background. The alcohol is well hidden. It’s... pleasant, I think would be about the right word. Mellow, maybe. From the description though I was expecting big fresh juicy zesty orange flavours, and it failed to live up to my expectations. Surprisingly subdued then, but... pleasant.

Huge offwhite head. Hazy yellow body. Spicy resiny orangey aroma with funky herbal notes. Sweetish spicy wooden orangey taste with tropical fruit notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, mealy mouthfeel. Sweetish resiny minty orangey aftertaste with spicy notes. Very nice and highly drinkable. (0.33l can, from wine monopoly Storo, Oslo.)

Can from Beers’n’more. A straight citric and slightly tropical IPA for sure. Oranges indeed, mostly of the bloody type as promised. Typical orange bitterness as well, incredibly fruity all over. And very tasty at that. Malt backbone, carbonation, texture, palate, it’s all there and well balanced.

Draft at Union Tavern, 5/26. Cloudy yellowish color.  Frothy white head. Strong lace.  Fruity hop aroma.  Orange is recognizable in the flavor, and it finishes mid-bitter.  Slightly over carbonated, but otherwise it has a solid mouthfeel.  Nice beer.

Hazy light orange beer, not much head. Smells of orange, and flavour is bitter, orange hop. Dry aftertaste. Could have gone being a bit more chilled and it’d been in my bag all day which might explain why there wasn’t much head.
