Bloody ‘Ell – We have never brewed a straight IPA at Beavertown, why change the habit of a lifetime! Here we take a stripped back IPA malt bill and highly hop it with the tropics of Amarillo and Citra and pile head on with kilos of Blood Orange zest and juice late in the boil, bringing you a smack of citrus and hints of warm orange aromas. One of our favourite and most popular seasonal brews. We will be canning Bloody ‘Ell too from February until the bloody oranges run dry!

(Keg at One Pint Pub, 20150320) The beer poured golden and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had fruitiness and citricness. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, citricness, orange peel, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was fruity and bitter.

On tap at Alvinne Craft Beer Fest in Vichte - Belgium March 2015 with markoijelena. Pours golden color, hazy with a white cap. Nose: dusty notes mixed with garlic hoppiness. Mouth: elegant body, bitter overall feel but not terrific.

Draught at Beerhouse. Hazy orange with a medium head. Aroma is hops and orange. Bitter fruit, tart, citrus, not much malt. Long bitter finish.

Pale orange color with white head. Fruity hops, a bit pines, oranges. Taste is marmalade, a bit tart, a bit orange zests, toasty. Juicy-oily as well. Nice!

Tin. Nose is citrus, lots of grapefruit and blood orange. Taste is suprisingly caramel heavy on the first sip leading to a rich (rather than bitter) orange flavour, which slowly gives way to a bitter, pine and orange rind finish. Mouthfeel is good. I was really expecting this to be seasoned beer which left me cold, but I was really impressed. I like spice and flavours to be used to subtly enhance and this was note perfect for me. Lovely.

Draft sample @ ACBF 2015.

Draught Nice thick and dense, just off-white head over golden beer. Dry hops, C-hops, hopbales, Hessian sacks, dried flowers. As to oranges? Sunflower seeds, dry other grains, wholemealbread. Oranges? Medium bodied, maybe. Feels quite carbonated, slick. Nice beer. Glad to drink it, but why all the blurb about oranges, let alone bloodoranges (ever seen the juice of them?)

Sampled draft @ ACBF 2015. Hazy golden, little white head. Served too cold. Nose is onion hops, fizzy, cold. Taste is onion hops, fresh hops, light grapefruit peel but from the hops, touch metallic cold, light pine + light yeast, zero blood orange which is really disappointing even if this is a pretty nice IPA. Light bodied. Someone told me that all the blood orange sank to the bottom of the keg, okay, I must have unfortunately gotten the top without any blood orange. (Thanks for sharing people!!!)

330ml can from Ales by Mail, thanks lusikka!

BBE 11/08/15 - Pours orange with a smooth foamy head. Aroma of fresh juicy fruits, zesty orange, floral hops, citrus, pine, resin and some blood orange notes. Taste is fresh juicy, floral and citrusy with some zesty orange notes and slight tartish blood orange vibes. Finish is fresh hoppy, juicy fruity and floral with some citrus, pine and resin. Quite nice and quaffable.

Re-rated on 5.6.2015. Feels more fresh than last time, this is still a great IPA.
