This IPA was formally known as Sam named after its hops; Simcoe, Amarillo and mosaic, but we were told this would be a trademark issue with a large craft brewery out of the north-east, so we had to change it. We cycled though a bunch of generic names; Bob, Tom, Dick, Dan, Carl, Frank until we finally arrived on the perfect name for this IPA...Joe.

Draft pint in the Long Beach Yard House on 7th Feb 2017. Golden amber pour, decent white crown of foam on top. Easy drinking IPA with a good balance, leaning towards citrus in nature but with a good malty base to counter the hop aromas and flavours: liked it.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 10/20/2016. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy golden orange color with a 2 finger dense and rocky white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big tangerine, pineapple, peach, grapefruit, passion fruit, mango, melon, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, light pepper, pine, light honey, bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of bright/dank citrus/tropical/pine hops and light-moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of huge tangerine, pineapple, peach, grapefruit, passion fruit, mango, melon, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, light pepper, pine, light honey, bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good sized pine/citrus rind/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of tangerine, pineapple, peach, grapefruit, passion fruit, mango, melon, lemon/orange rind, pepper, pine, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of bright/dank citrus/tropical/pine hops and light-moderate pale malt flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance, and zero lingering hop astringency after the finish. Moderate dryness from bitterness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, sticky/resinous, and lightly grainy/creamy mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 6.9%. Overall this is a fantastic IPA! All around outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of bright/dank citrus/tropical/pine hops and light-moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth crisp, and refreshing to drink. Spot on west coast style IPA, with fantastic hop vibrancy. A highly enjoyable offering.

Bottle: Slightly hazy, amber, with a thick, off-white head. Grapefruit, lemon aroma. Nice, biting acidity and strong citrus-peel bitter flavour. Nicely peppery.....an extremely pleasing IPA.

Draft at the Boise Open, pours a amber orange color with a moderate sized tan head. Aroma is hoppy and sweet, citrus and pine. Flavor is citrus sweetness and moderate hoppy bitters. Lightly malty. Good balance and refreshing. Nicely made, I’d sure like to see this in cans.

Pours a clear golden yellow, with good-sized head. Aroma is very redolent with the hops. Lots of hop-pine and citrus in the nose. Flavor is very hop-forward with lots of pine/spruce and lots of citrus. Very bitter finish and aftertaste. Very good beer.

Nice slightly hazy golden and copper coloured body with a peach glow and a small, two centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of fresh PNW hops, some resin, grapefruit, pine and a good kick of sugars from pineapple and caster sugar. Medium-bodied; Assertive fresh hops in the initial taste with pineapple, resin, grass, hay, pine and grapefruit all ever present with a big note of alcohol, grass and bitterness at the end. Aftertaste shows a very well balanced malt backbone with some alcohol warmth and a lot of dry pungent kick of the hops coupled with some nice herbal elements as well. Overall, a nice PNW IPA with some kick and a refined palate that is very well balanced. Sad this is now an AB product. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from New Beer Distributors in New York, New York on 02-July-2016 for US$2,50 sampled at home in Washington on 02-September-2016.
