David and Robert both love bourbon. We mean love bourbon. Maybe that’s why they didn’t beat around the bush here. Sure, you can age subtly in bourbon barrels. And subtlety is sometimes enough. But, with the Anvil, the real spark ignited when we tossed nuance aside and added a healthy measure of our proprietary barrel-proof bourbon flavor. Suddenly, something intense, alive and memorable happened. To our palates, it offers a clean, lively, aromatic presence with a layered smoky finish. It’s truly integrated and rounded, yet vitally distinct. Enjoy.

Funny but I don’t get even the barest hint of bourbon here, barely even any barrel notes at all. If I had no idea it was bb-aged, I would just label this an ordinary cider. It is very British, very light carbonation, dry, darkly fruity, very much not an apple-juice flavor but more vinous. I think for sure it is the best non-Spanish non-French cider I have had.

Bottle pour. Pours a darker copper color with a heavy apple aroma. The bourbon is definitely there on this one, and you can taste it from the very beginning. Bourbon flavor, but not boozy. Fresh apple flavor. This wasn’t too bad, but something does seem missing. An interesting, creative, unique cider here. Enjoyed it.

Bottle. Pours with a pale, clear golden hued body with a fizzy white head that fades. Aromas are of honey, raw oak, vanillin, cream soda, quite smokey, almost a hint of scotch, almost a slightly malted oxidized character. Odd. Flavors show mild acidity, intense vanillin, light smoke. Very much like a sour cream soda with a hint of apple character. To me, it clearly tastes like artificial whiskey essence/extract, which is disappointing. Mild mineral and tannin balance. A touch sweet. I really would like to try one of their ciders aged in a bourbon barrel. Lively carbonation.

Bottle from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Another pour that suggests perry color. Aroma is lite bourbon/vanilla notes. Very lite. Near med body. I’m getting the idea this is "artificially flavored" rather than BA. There’s the light b/v, and suggestions of smoke. My mouth is getting that bourbon/oak/BA coating. So whatever it is, nicely done. It’s actually rather subtle, and a major improvement on "cider". If you like this, try the Thistly Cross BA cider.

Bottle: Clear gold with a quick white head. Scent is woody, red apple-peel. Taste is sweet red apple, nuts, vanilla. Only the slightest mild bourbon essence. Not outstanding, but OK.

Kentucky Friend Charleston Trip Beer #51. 12 ounce bottle from Shenanigans, Lexington. Pours a clear amber color with a bit of a head. Aroma of sweet apples, mild bourbon and a grainy, almost gluey note. The taste is nutty notes, bourbon, maple, tart apples. Thin bodied. This is very strange.
