Bottle 500ml.Unclear medium to dark red amber colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, tart berry, wood, alcohol. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a long duration, berry, wood, alcohol. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light alcoholic. [20130427]

A dark brown, slightly reddish colour, a head is small bubbled, cloudy, big and yellowbrown. The nose is balanced sour, only hint of vinegar, lots of enjoyable dark fruits, cherries and barrel. Taste is quite strongly sour, cherries, also other dark fruits and barrel. The end is quite dry and slightly herbal, hint of bourbon. Surprisingly, light to drink, even medium bodied, high carbonation. Nice and rich of nuancees, more than usual sourness and fruits.

Bottle from ABS Drinks. Nose of sugar, caramel, wood barrel, chocolate, some vinegar. Almost black, orange tints, persistent lace. Great fruity, tart punch, sour cherry, green apple, very interesting, wood. Light, clean sourness. Very nice, balanced sour.

(Bottle, 0.5 l - 2009 Double Barrel Aged FOB, at Gastropub Tuulensuu, 20130810) The beer poured dark brown. Its head was medium sized and lightly brown. Aroma had berries, wood and sourness. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were wood, sourness, malts, fruitiness and bitterness. Aftertaste was tart, woody and bitter. A nice oud bruin.

Sample at Haand 2013. Dark brown colour with a beige head. Aroma is sourness, malt, caramel, berries. Flavour is sourness, malt, caramel, berries, fruit, sugar, spices. Very nice beer.

Sampled @ Haand 2013. Hazy brown body with a small beige head. Aroma feels a bit messy in the start but ends up quite delicious. Acidic vinous, sweet malt, berries, dry fruit, candy sugar, spices and slightly funky. Flavor is sweet and sour, malt, fruit, chocolate and vinous. Fine body. Not exactly balanced, but quite pleasant anyway.

Small brown head. Opaque brown body. Earthy wooden linoleum aroma with vinous wild berry notes. Sour-sweet perfumy mineraly fruity taste with wooden spicy herbal notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, slightly astringent mouthfeel. Dry-acidic perfumy vinous wooden aftertaste with linoleum and old book notes. Really nice and clear. Highly drinkable. (0.15l draft at Haand 13.)

Bottle sample at a sour tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks beerandbeyond. Dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of malt, caramel, vinous notes, a bit of roastiness, dark fruits, oak and a bit of bourbon. Harsh sour flavor with vinegar, oak, dark fruits and roastiness. Medium-bodied. Weird.

Struise never fails to impress me. This is a complex, rich brew that is an enjoyment in every sip.

Bottled. Slight hazy ruby color, short brownish head, quickly disappearing. Aroma is a lot of wooden barrel, some red wine, hint of tartness, slight metallic, cardboard. Medium sour in taste, bit sweet, quite fruity, bit thin. Lacks a bit of body actually, whether that should come from more tartness or lactic acid, or from other flavors. Medium in carbonation. Not much of the biscuity bourbon notes, just in the flavor a bit. Seems to be more from the bourgogne. Or at least, from wooden barrels. It has some complexity, but all in all the description makes you expect a lot more to be honest. During the bottle, it actually improves in complexity, maybe because it warms up a bit or because of some yeast notes adding complexity. Also, makes it less thin. So, as with many sour beers, be sure to pour some (not a lot ofc) yeast with it.
