The aroma flavor and body are all suffering from a weak malt bill. The concept is good as I pick up some of the claimed qualities of dark malts roastiness, vanilla, burnt sugar but the thinness does damage.

Bottle pour into shaker pint glass from Whole Foods Market. Appearance is clear, dark brown/ruby red with finger-width, light brown foamy head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is strong vanilla, chocolate, sweet roasted malts. Taste is as aroma. Palate is light bodied with thin texture, lively carbonation and mix of sweet and bitter finish. Overall, this was a real favorite of mine a few years back but I'm finding it a bit too sweet now, which is saying something, and overcarbonated.

Sampled on draft at Social this beer poured a very dark brown color with red highlights and a medium sized foamy beige head that faded quickly and left no lacing. The aroma was faintly tangy and malty. The flavor was malty with molasses, vanilla extract, cookie dough and a hint of dark fruits. Long malty vanilla extract finish. Medium body but smooth. Ok.

Bottle at San Juan. Dark brown color, small beige head. Aroma has rye bread and soya sauce. Light to medium-bodied. Cola-like sweetness, ryebread, hints of chocolate and vanilla. Quite light porter for this abv.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 3/17/2014. Pours crystal clear dark reddish brown color with a 1-2 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of milk chocolate, vanilla, caramel, toast, toffee, brown bread, light nuttiness, herbal, and toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and vanilla notes; with decent strength. Taste of milk chocolate, vanilla, caramel, toast, toffee, brown bread, light cocoa, light nuttiness, herbal, and toasted earthiness. Minimal roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, vanilla, caramel, toast, toffee, brown bread, light cocoa/nuttiness, and herbal/toasted earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Good balance, complexity, and solid robustness of dark/bready malt and vanilla flavors; with zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and light-medium bodied; with a very smooth and lightly creamy mouthfeel that is okay. Alcohol is well hidden with zero warming present after the finish. Overall this is a solid vanilla porter. All around good balance, complexity, and solid robustness of dark/bready malt and vanilla flavors; and very smooth to drink. Definitely very toned down for a porter, but the flavors were quite nice and balanced. A pleasantly enjoyable offering.

12 oz. bottle. Darker brown / almost black color. Aroma is pure vanilla extract and light chocolate notes. The body is thin even for Porter standards. Vanilla extract though the sip without much else backing it up. Light cocoa powder, carbonation needs to be tuned down, touch to fizzy. Drinkable not overly sweet but not much to it.
