Pours dark brown, almost black with a fluffy creme colored head. Aroma of dry malt. Initial taste is of toasted malt with smoked influences as it moves along the tongue. Palate is dominated by dry malt with a dry rice/malt element on the back of the tongue. Pretty good.

Nice unassuming stout, light chocolate, roasty, coffee aroma and flavor. Rounded mouthfeel. Okay beer.

Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from TJ's. Appearance is almost opaque black--very dark brown/mahogany with light source directly behind--with light sparkle at the edge of the glass, finger-width light brown head with poor retention and trace lacing. Aroma is roasted malt (like burnt marshmallow), wood, dark fruits, light cocoa. Taste is roasted malt, dark chocolate. Palate is medium-to-full bodied with smooth, thick texture, average-to-lively carbonation and bittersweet roasted malt finish. Overall, the taste doesn't quite deliver on the aroma and it's a little over carbonated. But, I've had a lot of TJ's beers lately and this is one of the better ones.

Black with a brown head - Roasted malt aroma with some coffee notes as well - Roasted malt body with some notes of coffee and chocolate with bitterness - The roasted malt and some nice bitterness goes into the finish - This was good

From bottle to glass. Creamy roast aroma. Brown with light brown highlights. Taste is roast and cream. Not bad.

Bottle from Trader Joe’s. It pours a dark brown color with a creamy light brown head. The aroma is a bit acidic with heavy dark malts. A little coffee-like with some buttered toffee and nuts .The flavor is full bodied and very creamy on the palate. Lots of dark malts with heavy roast in the finish. Overall, it has more of a toasted malt profile except for the finish which borders on burnt. I’m not getting the acidity I picked up in the aroma, which is a good thing in my book. A bit of a simplistic beer, but not bad.

3rd June 2016, 12oz bottle into a Corsendonk badged stemmed tulip. Looked fine, black with a lasting tanned head. Over roasted oats and malts give the aroma and taste some dark chocolate and ground coffee flavours. Nothing too exciting but nothing wrong with it either.

12 ounce bottle from Trader Joe’s. Black color topped by a large foamy tan head. Rich roast malt nose has buttery notes. Sweet roasted malt flavor has notes of dark fruit and coffee. Midtaste brings dark cherries, oats and cocoa. finish is chewy and has a sticky mouthfeel.
