From tap at Union Square. Pours clear and golden deep brown with a small tan head. Aroma is toasted maæty, breadish. Breadish flavoured, light sweetness, caramelish and vague vanilla like. Sweet and toasted malty finish.

Draught at Heartland Times Square, New York, NY. Clear reddish brown, no head. Heavily buttery nose. Sweet with clean, hard mouthfeel. Unpleasantly buttery with some tart cranberries on a distance. Dreadful.

growler-pours a dissipating off white head and copper/red color. Aroma is sweet medium malt-caramel, secondary spice hops. Taste is sweet/sugary medium malt-caramel, some cherry, very faint spice hops to balance but very boring. On the syrupy side. Minimum carbonation.

Sample at the Heartland Chophouse: Reddish-amber pour with a minimal beige head and nil lacing. Weak malt aroma is difficult to detect. Light-bodied with a somewhat bland malt and nut flavor. The finish is clean and fairly sweet and lasting, mostly malt but with a touch of hops. Not sure what the goal is with this beer as it’s not as good as their Lager or Amber.

(On tap) Heartland has six regular beers on tap plus a load of seasonals and one-offs depending on the mood of masterbrewer Kelly Taylor. Belonging to the last category is this beer - is Taylor a true "Deadhead"? Reddish brown in colour, low in carbonation. Nutty with some caramell sweetness, soft pleasant with a balanced bitter finish.
