Bottle. Orange, orange peel and rye malt aroma. Amber with moderate head. Mildly sweet orange, very light rye malt, and mildly bitter orange peel flavor. Smells great but flavor a let-down.

ya know, with lots of these magic hats you can’t tell if you’ve tased them or not. from a bot. brownish yellow. friendly mild hop perfume olfactory. nice thin creamy head. does have some mild sizzle, just barely. but the overriding factor in this brew is its nasty rude on ipa style with a rye kik ass finish. not impressed.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Giannone, 5/16/13, Drinking this one virtually with jcos!

Aroma: The nose of this one is sweet malts, rye bread, and some light earth/pine hops
Appearance: Pours a dark reddish color with a a beige head that leaves heavy lace on the glass
Flavor: The taste is lightly sweet, rye malts, some caramel, mild butter, and fairly light hops
Palate: The body is medium (leaning light), a little sticky, with an okay, but slightly off mouthfeel
Overall Impression: I wasn't too impressed by this one. It's pretty run of the mill. The rye actually shines decently enough, but the IPA flavors do not.

12oz bottle. Unfiltered murky orange-brown body. Fluffy, steady off-white head. A pretty well balanced Rye IPA. Respectable enough hopping, a little one dimensional maybe. Either way, this beer is malt centered, big rich caramel and rye tones...though still finishes a touch hollow. The house yeast really dominates.

12 ounce bottle from the spring sampler. Pours a clear copper color with a medium sized frothy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of caramel malts with earth and rye notes. The taste is spicy rye, herbal and pine notes, caramel malts and some toast. Well balanced. One of the better Magic Hat beers I’ve had in some time.

Drought. Light amber color with creamy beige head showing good retention, lavender aroma, sweetish mildly hoppy taste, average carbonation, long finish. A mild IPA.

Clear light amber - soapy, sticky lace - nose is very malt forward - quite a bit of toffee - moderate woody hops - soft carbonation - medium body - flavor is also fairly malt forward - quite a bit of toffee, followed by a fairly hearty rye character - more earthy, woody hop flavor than there is actual bitterness - the malt/hop interplay and balance reminds me very much of an American style barley wine, but in a good way - a solid brew for magic hat.

Pours clear copper color with off white head. Soapy aroma with some rye and pine. Toasted malt and earthy flavor with some spiciness from the rye and pine hops. Medium body with average carbonation.

Pours deep amber gold into a shaker. Off-white head with medium retention recedes leaving trailing sheets to coat surface. Stale burnt toast and vegamite aromas. Thick with bitter botanicals upfront turning to nasty earthy resin in the lasting finish. Not good.
