Ideal for the Lager drinker who prefers amber beers, the "Scratch" is a smooth, malt-accentuated lager. Brewed in the "Steam-Style" tradition, scratch is a so-called hybrid beer that is fermented at medium temperatures to develop some ale and lager characteristics.

355ml bottle. Clear amber colour with small to average frothy off-white head. Grainy, minimally wheaty aroma. Taste has Bitter characteristics on the malty side, initially minimally sweet, later more grainy and with a grassy touch, ending with a slightly dry hoppy finish. For me clearly more similar to an Ale (Bitter) than a Lager - but for that reason neither better nor worse.

Deep amber. Toasted malt, light sweet fruit, and some herbal. Smooth and medium body. Easy going but not something I'd go for all that much.

12oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours amber with about a finger of white head. Aroma of caramel and light hops. Taste is about the same. Medium bodied with a somewhat thin texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, not bad.

Pours a nice deep red colour, a little cloudy. Not much head, but lots of carbonation. Smells of hops. Palate is pretty light, though not unpleasant. Tastes a bit hoppy, a bit metallic. Not memorable. Bottle from Wegmanโ€™s craft your own sixer in Niagara.

Bottle, pours a amber colour, it is pretty basic stuff, it has a nice maltyness and it is pretty easy drinking, overall decent

May 2009: Brown 355ml bottle, 5.3%,loads of life left, poured into a tall tulip shaped stemmed Corsendonk glass. Clear body of a true amber colour, good tan head at first, soon fell away to a collar and wispy covering. Very little aroma, gets my standard score of 3 for a non-smelling lager/pilsner. Hints of malts as it warms, otherwise nothing much at all. Malt feel to it more than a malt taste to it, if you know what I mean. "The Sun has got his hat on, hip hip hip hooray, the Sun has got his hat on and heโ€™s coming out to play" This is a beer for drinking in the garden during a heatwave (like today). More body than a normal lager, but not rich, creamy or flavoursome, just a cold beer to cool you down. It kind of threatens to be sweet, but doesnโ€™t back it up, strange. Not overly impressed, only had a few beers in this style and much prefer the Brooklyn Lager to this version.

Bottle from Bierzwerg. 35,5 cl bottle. Bought in California during a trip. Amber color with almost no head. Fruity aroma with notes of caramel. Taste, grapefruit, caramel, some spices. Nice long bitter finish. Good.

33 cl bottle. Rated on 8.10.2008
Aroma has some sweet malt and toffee. Flavour is quite thin with toffee and some berries. Works as a sauna beer, but nothing much.
