750mL bottle, sent by BigTomz (thanks a lot Tom), pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of intense roasted malt, chocolate, some faint espresso and slight hop character. Flavour is beautifully roasty and chocolatey, with a dry, velvety, oily, viscous palate that is totally full-bodied. Finishes dry, roasty, woody and hoppy. Gorgeous impy - this is pretty much everything I love about the style.

Bottle with Steve and the Foco BA crew. Deep brown appearance with a light brown head. Tangy, light fruity, apricot, pear, sweet fruity, dark malty aroma. Tangy, light fruity, dark chocolate malty, pear flavor. Interesting enough.

Black beer, fluffy tan head. Aroma of malts, coffee, dark chocolate, hops and liquorice. Some milk tones. Rather sweet flavour, burned malts bitterness, chocolate, slight smoke, coffee and liquorice. Smooth mouthfeel. Quite alcoholic for the ABV. Finish reminding of bittersweet dark chocolate.

Shared 750ml bottle with 6 others. Poured a dark brown/black color with a small tan head. Aroma was roasted malts with coffee and chocolate notes. Bitter-sweet chocolate notes. Alcohol is a bit present but is not overwhelming. Wasn’t what my minds eye pictured, but I was impressed.

Bottle: Poured a deep black color stout with a nice thick brown foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of light roasted malt with light coffee notes and light black chocolate. Taste is an underwhelming taste of light roasted notes with light black chocolate and light dry coffee. Body is quite full though average for style with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Good but I guess I might have caught in hype and was expecting a lot more complexity from this one.

Picked this bottle up 1/09 from the most recent bottling. Pours a solid black with a thinnish tan head that dissipates quickly. Smells of chocolate syrup, dark chocolate, a faint bit of hops in the back. Taste is chocolate syrup, some milk chocolate, and a bit of caramel. Hop or roast bitterness linger in the finish. Body is medium, mouthfeel is heavy and oily, carbonation is low. Definitely a sipper. The chocolate is nice, but I would have liked a bit more roast. A bit more body would have helped this one as well.

Bottle thanks to errantnight. Pours with a deep black, inky pour and a somewhat lasting deep brown head. Aromas of chocolate, dusty, cocoa, ash, raisins and licorice. Some currants. Flavors of ash, cocoa, currant, vinous, tar notes. Very lively carbonation, dry, light acidity.

Black. Heavily roasted grain, with a palate like syrup. Far too much bourbon in the flavor and aroma. Thick.
