La Folie, French for "the folly," is a beer steeped in New Belgium brewing tradition. This wood-aged, sour brown spends one to three years in big oak barrels known as foeders. Pours slightly hazy amber/brown with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, sour berries, citric acid, wood and hint of caramel. Taste is light sweet and medium sour with a long vinous, dry, sour and berry finish. Body is light to medium, texture is thin, carbonation is soft.

Bottle, 22oz. As Lips of Faith Sour Brown Ale. It pours an off-white head of moderate size, with nice lacings. Amber in color. The aroma has some balsamic vinegar, with earthy, woody notes, caramel and dark dried fruits. It’s full-bodied and soft on the palate, lightly tart, with a pleasant carbonation level. There’s caramel, dried fruits, sour berries, vinegar hints, earthy hints and a lemony touch in the flavor. Lasting finish. A really pleasant sour, balanced, tasteful and sort of quenching. 130822

From the March 2013 3R6P tasting. +++ Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark red-brown color with a medium sized soapy tan head that faded and left minimal lacing. The aroma was wood, cherry, tobacco and red wine. The flavor was amazing tart and dry with notes of Sweettart candies, wood and red wine. Long tart red wine finish. Medium body. Nice.

Bottle @ Aarhus tasting. Hazy ruby with a lasting beige head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel, fruity, wood, barnyard and a little acetone. Flavor is quite sweet and rather acidic. Dry and rather acidic finish. 050313

Growler from City Growler in Cumming. Nice, ruby brown color with a small, tan, bubbly head. The aroma is red grapes, apples, walnuts, and a little black bread and grenadine. Very sweet, with a smooth sourness throughout. Medium to heavy body, silky, and syrupy. Overall, this is a delicious, wonderfully smooth sour ale, with a well balanced flavor and nice aroma.

2011 bottle. Aroma has balanced notes of dark fruit including tart cherries, cassis and untie blackberries. There is also a bit of an oak note in the aroma and some acidity to balance the fruitiness. Pours brown with a thin tan head that recedes fairly quickly. Some muddy amber highlights to the color. Flavor starts with a bit of a sweet fruity note with dark cherries, cassis and tart raspberries. This changes mid palate as a bit of an oak character leads the palate to some finishing tartness and acidity. The finish is quite acidic and mouth puckering. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and has a touch of smoothness to it before the acidity causes it to finish dry and crisp. Medium low carbonation and low alcohol warmth. Overall a very enjoyable Flanders Red, but I wish was still a live beer so I could see how it developed with time. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
