La Folie, French for "the folly," is a beer steeped in New Belgium brewing tradition. This wood-aged, sour brown spends one to three years in big oak barrels known as foeders. And when the beer finally hits the glass, La Folie is sharp and sour, full of green apple, cherry, and plum-skin notes. Pouring a deep mahogany, the mouthfeel will get you puckering while the smooth finish will get you smiling. 2014. I actually liked the Love: Felix a little better. Pours reddish hue with great head and lacing. Sour plum and funkiness a la Rodenbach. Finishes fizzy sour with good body. Some citrus and light fruit, nice. Tap at Churchkey.

Draft (2014) at ChurchKey, thanks solidfunk! Pours dark reddish brown with off-white head. Aromas of vinegar, tart fruit. Tasting notes of tart notes, vinegar, dark fruit. Medium body with a dry finish. Possibly my favorite from New Belgium.

2014 La Folie - Lips of Faith bottle. Orange brown, low golden head. Berry, light leather, orange peel, vanilla aroma. Lactic sour, and not in a elegant way. Fruity notes behind that, barn, leather, sour green apples. medium body, puckering dry. Unbalanced, lacks some fruitiness to stand up against the battery acid. I love sour beers, but this one became undrinkable after a while, could not finish the bottle.

Draft pour at Special Brews. Pours a dark cloudy brown color with a foaming tan head. Sour dark fruit aroma, so off to a great start. Very sour up front with a lot of cherry and dark fruit. It’s just about everything I look for in a sour dark beer. Love it. Update: Had this a few times since and it’s still a great beer. Filled a growler of the 2013 version. Dark ruby pour. A bit of a woody flavor I don’t quite remember but for the most part, this is a fantastic beer. Great stuff. Update again: 2015, 22 oz bottle, poured into my New Belgium glass acquired at the brewery. I’d like to think I’m using it properly. Dark brown pour with a swirling tan head. Dry, oaky dark fruit aroma. Fruit sweet, and oak flavor up front, with a pucker heavy, sour palate finish. Gets more and more sour as you go. Vintages are always fun, but I absolutely love this beer fresh. One of the original sour beers that I ever loved, and still to this day it’s amazing. Awesome beer.

Reddish brown colour, dissipating white head. Aroma of acetic vinegar, red fruits, wood, apple and citrus. Sour flavour, fruity, apple, citrus, quite tart. Bit thin body. Sour finish, citrus and apple. Decent, albeit quite straightforward sour.

Bottle @ ZZT 8 shared by Joes. Clear red color, virtually no head. Aroma is quite sweet, some red fruits, slightly sour. Taste is quite fruity, quite dry, quite sour, but pretty nicely balanced. Medium body and carbonation. Nice one!
