A golden, strongly bubbling beer with a very big and blond head. The nose has grainy malts, fruits, some lemon and honey. Taste has grain, fruits, honey, herbal-grassy hops, strenght of alcohol but without taste. Medium+ bodied, strong carbonation that is slightly bubbling in the mouth. There is something luxorious but still slightly blend, I was expecting more.

Tasted under its original name Malheur Brut Réserve and under the later name Malheur Bière Brut, this was the first of the ’champagne beers’ which appeared on the Belgian market around the year 2000. Poured in a champagne flute, this beer has a coarse but thick and firm, snow white head and a pure and deep golden blonde colour with very fierce, indeed champagne-like fizz. Unusual but attractive aroma of hay, soap, dried lemon peel, cava, old cheese, walnuts, vanilla, biscuit, chamomille, apple, dough and something plastic-like, but not disturbingly so. Dry taste, applish fruitiness, starfruit, very spritzy, yeasty, bready, with champenoise carbonation stinging the tongue, refreshing, with yeasty finish revealing some herbal hops and gin-like, warming alcohol. Very enjoyable apéritif, appetizing and more ’beery’ than its competitor DeuS Brut des Flandres by Bosteels.

From a 75 cl bottle shared at home. Pours a cloudy gold with a massive off white head. Aroma of belgian yeast. Flavors of caramel, candi sugar and a hint of butterscotch. Very effervescent mouthfeel. Smooth slightly sour finish.

From bottle at a tasting at Bar & Cigar. Clear pale golden with a white head. Fresh and fruity aroma with (ripe) prear and apples, yeast and malt. Slightly vinous, nice sparkeling wine feeling. Medium body with nice carbonation. Moderate sweet with a quite dry finish. Fruity, flavourful and refreshing. Beautiful pungent aroma, yeasty, hazy straw color with silky white head. Bitterness comes through on first taste, lingering on palate and in throat. Smooth, with a spike of alcohol warmth. Complex, yet tasty.....
