The Bollywood of beers. We wanted to build a recipe which really pushed the love affair between dark malts and hops. So we designed the brew around allowing the hops to sing on top of a dark malt bomb. We aimed to brew an almost dark chocolate-like base beer and then piled on with the tropics of summit and centennial hops, lifting the waves of smooth chocolate off the tongue. We categorise Holy Cowbell as an India stout. ‘India’ coming from the same meaning behind ‘India’ pale ale. Basically lots and lots of hops added in their masses at the end of the boil and then in dry hop, to extract maximal hop flavour and aroma!

Can from Beerlovers, Vienna. Pours black colour with beige head. Opens with hoppy bitterness followed by cocoa powder righ away in aroma. Bitterness rule its taste, again with some cocoa notes that last till the finish, which is quite long. Light to medium bodied, has pleasant creamy mouthfeel and is easy to drink. Liked this one very much.

From tap at Kafé België, Utrecht. Aroma of roast, fruity notes, citrus, cacao, piney hops. Flavour is moderate to medium roasty and hoppy bitter. Finish is rather dry. Body is medium, nicely creamy. Damn tasty.

25th October 2021. Shrewsbury Beer Share in Chez Sophie; 5 guys splitting beers and talking bollox, great fun. Cheers Mat for the evenings 'Cobweb Beer'. This was a 330ml can with a BBD of 14th July 2017. I thought it held up well, but was more Black IPA than a Stout. Scored objectively because of it's age!

Tap at Brewdog Liverpool. As you'd expect, roasty, bit of caramel maltiness, pine hops. Feels quite balanced though. Bit of coffee, bit milky; pretty nice. --- Beer merged from original tick of Holy Cowbell India Stout on 09 Sep 2019 at 16:05 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 9 | Flavor - 9 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 8. Blik 33cl thuis. Koffie, chocolade, roasted malts, bitters en zoeten wisselen elkaar prettig af, tropisch fruitig, citrus, hoptonen duidelijk aanwezig, nadronk blijft lang hangen, licht droog. Klein beetje dun. Meer IPA dan Stout maar dit is een prima combi. (11-10-2018).

Tap. Coffee, dark chocolate, some floral hop notes. Surprisingly dry, ends with very round bitter notes.
