The Bollywood of beers. We wanted to build a recipe which really pushed the love affair between dark malts and hops. So we designed the brew around allowing the hops to sing on top of a dark malt bomb. We aimed to brew an almost dark chocolate-like base beer and then piled on with the tropics of summit and centennial hops, lifting the waves of smooth chocolate off the tongue. We categorise Holy Cowbell as an India stout. ‘India’ coming from the same meaning behind ‘India’ pale ale. Basically lots and lots of hops added in their masses at the end of the boil and then in dry hop, to extract maximal hop flavour and aroma!

Can from Dranken Geers, Oostakker. Shared with Anke.
Pours cloudy black with a big, lasting, foamy, beige head; little lacing. The aroma contains chocolate powder, raisin, pine, roasted malt, grapefruit, mocha, walnut, some earth. It tastes light to medium hoppy bitter, bit roasted, and light fruity & malty sweet, hints of chocolate & dark fruits, backed by a very light sour (citrus) tone. Dryish, herbal hoppy finish, lingering citrus & fondant. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Good stuff.

(Can) Black colour with big, frothy, lasting, beige head. Malty, roasted, hoppy nose with black rye bread, chocolate, orange peel, soy sauce, burnt sugar and a spicy touch of caraway. Malty, roasted, hoppy taste with notes of dark chocolate, cacao, black rye bread, some soy sauce, black coffee, orange peel, pine needles, liquorice and a balanced piney bitterness in the finish. Medium body, quite dry. Tasty and well balanced, fresh hops but the bitterness never gets too aggressive. Very nice.

Can at home from the Offie & Toffee. A black pour with a pillowy head that lasted well in the top of the glass. A smooth malty flavour with plenty of bitter hops balancing out the profile. It was a good beer, but not easy drinking.

On tap at Mel's, Vienna. Shared with Niko. Black, small beige head. Moderately to heavily hoppy, fruity and herbal, neatly balanced with intense roastiness. Dry, creamy and smooth. Light hoppiness. Medium body, moderate finish. Very good.

Can. A very tough one to rate. At first, it smelt and appeared and tasted quite mundane. I found the hop and malt combo weird, far too sticky to the palate and incredibly smokey. Overtime however, it developed into a really beautifl beer. The malts and the hops were both given their time to shine simultaniously. Would need another try as this rating puts it as an overall experiecne of bad and excellent but overall good.
