An easy drinking and refreshing IPA. Fresh dry hop, herbal character is provided by the mix of Challenger and First Gold hops. The use of crystal malt in the grist gives a satisfying toffee/caramel note and the addition of a little black malt adds just enough astringency to give a clean, dry finish.

Malts: Pale, crystal and black malt.
Hops: Challenger, Pilgrim and First Gold.

On cask at aye Olde Talbot Inn Worcester. On the whole a very disappointing IPA. Lacking the hoppiness I would have expected.

Hand-pulled pint into an IPA badged UK pint sleeve on 28 Sep 2013 in the lovely Castle Hotel on the A41 at Bletchley (Shropshire). I was at the GBBF 2004 (Olympia) the day this got the ’Silver Award’ and I was a shocked as most CAMRA members were at the time. I’ve drank it plenty of times over the years in cask form but never rated it for some reason. Anyway: it’s OK and sometimes it’s really good. Amber, white head and hoppy enough for me. Still loads of bars selling this beer, so it must appeal to a fairly large audience otherwise Greene King would have pulled it by now.

Aroma of very soft malts, and an okay deep copper body with minimal head. Flacour is soft maltiness with a medium finish. It’s an average, average ale.

Cask at the Wheathseaf, Frimley Green - 05/01/13. Clear golden with a thin off white head. Nose carries light fruit, GK yeast strain. light malt, grain. Taste follows. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation, bitter dry in the finish. Boring.

Cask at the Golden Hind; great song in the advert, soapy dishwater of a beer. Don’t really get any of these fresh hops. Adequate beer.

Cask at The Acres, Solihull. Poured a lovely golden brown with a frothy white head, lots of lace and some carbonation. A hint of malt in the aroma leading to a slightly and surprisingly malty taste. There is very little bitterness in the flavour which very much hits you in the palate. A very smooth IPA it must be said and very different to the bottled version. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
