We love the piney, fruity flavors of Simcoe® hops. This is a classic pale ale, single-hopped and dry-hopped with Simcoe. We cold condition this beer and give it a restrained malt profile, so the hops really pop, like flora in spring. Our friends Patrick, Jason and Brad grow these luscious hops and we hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

Pours a clear golden, has a lumpy white head that lasted a good four minutes. There was barely any carbonation seen rising. The lacing is foamy all around the glass, the smell has pine and strong hops, taste is bitter through the pine and the hops, palate is light to medium, clean, sessionable, carbonation felt, pine aftertaste, no finish, overall this is a good brew, if I had this again, probably only on tap

Associated Supermarket, Bushwick sixer ($11): Pours a copper color with a white head. Aroma is pine with some nondescript citrus bordering on lemon, along with pale malts. Taste is bitter simcoe throughout without much else happening. The maltiness is pretty lame. Nice pine, but without anything to back it up, this is just not interesting. Minimal aftertaste. Medium-light body. Meh.

Cask at ACAT. Pours a clear gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of grassy hops with a bit of pine, a touch of onion and a grain back. Flavor starts with light grain and becomes grassy with a bit of pine and resin in the finish.

Bottle from Whole Foods in Folsom, CA. Pours amber with a 3 finger creamy beige head. There’s a nice roast malt backbone with a lot of resin and some citrus. It has a certain lushness in the mouth. It finishes very bitter. What’s not to like?

Pours a dark amber color with a bubbly off white head that gets a little sticky. Smells of pine and lightly herbal but mostly pine. There’s a bit of caramel in the background. The maltiness is a bit more pronounced in the flavor. There’s a solid rich bready caramel malt backbone to play against the pine and resin and herbal flavor coming from the hops. The taste is light crisp and refreshing. Medium body with a hefty dose of carbonation and a bubbly sweet mouthfeel. This is a nice flavorful beer, albeit a little on the simple side. If I had to knock it I would say that there is a hair too much carbonation for my liking.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Norm's, 4/11/12
Aroma: The nose is citrus fruits and a little floral hops, and some malty notes
Appearance: Pours a hazed, brightish orange color, with a white head and fairly heavy lacing
Flavor: Light-mid sweet and light-mid bitter, fairly balanced, similar to the nose: citrus, herbal and floral
Palate: The body is fairly light, with a fairly easy drinking feel, but there's something slightly off in the finish
Overall Impression: This one was alright. It is nothing particularly exciting, but it is plenty drinkable and it has some decent components to it as well.

Crisp copper coloured body with a light tan head about a centimetre tall and a few bubbles floating around. Aroma of piney and resiney hops with some malt coming through and a touch of caramel. Medium-bodied; Assertive nutty flavour at first with some caramel, a bit of the hops and a grassy note. Aftertaste shows mostly caramel and malt with a little earth flavour, some light grassy and herbal hops with a floral finish. Overall, a decent APA showing some okay qualities, but nothing great nor to be scouted for. A decent tasting beer that shows well. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on 16-February-2012 for US$2.49 sampled at home in Washington on 23-February-2012.
